So... Holden is not going to make cars IN Australia anymore - BUT - they reckon they are committed to making the best cars For Australia.

Pardon my skepticism - but - how does making cars in a third world country with questionable QC equal making the best cars For Australia?

Mister...good point. It all comes down to $$.

Not sure about Australia, but in the USA, the first few digits of the VIN tells you country of final manufacture.

For me, if it's not the USA, Japan, or Germany keep looking for a car. Had cars from Mexico. Total crap!

The only thing differing Holden from all the Korean imports was the fact they still assembled in Australia... so now they'll be more expensive and imported... why would you do it?  :dunno_black:

I haven't been a Holden fan for many years though anyway, don't like any modern cars or bikes, so don't matter to me... but pisses me off the government lets all this stuff go overseas and take even more jobs and $$$ away from our country...

On another note, yesterday was perfect for beer and swimming, nice way to end my little break, back to work today.

Also had a most awesome little ride on Saturday with my newly serviced 450 and a much improved front end  :thumb:

Holden are coochies. Negotiated a 3 year wage freeze with the employees... then a few months later... nah, closing anyway. But thanks for saving us money for the next 3 years.  :thumb:

Bastards!  >:(

Oh, BTW, we are still here... so don't hate us. We promise we will do good by you - like all the stuaf we just screwed over.

I've only owned one holden. So long ago the car would be a pile of rust in some wreckers someone by now, I am sure.

Jester: Governors are representatives of the Queen of England. The people do not elect them. They are appointed.

E.g. The former Elected Leader of Qld (Anna Bligh) appointed Penelopy Wensley to be the Gov of Qld when, the then Gov of Qld Quentin Bryce moved on to take the position as Governor General (highest title in Australia).

Campbell Newman is the elected leader of Qld.

While Governors mainly do constitutional and ceremonial functions, they also have the power to dismiss the elected premiers/leaders.

On November 11, 1975, the elected leader of Australia, Gough Whitlam, was dismissed by Governor-General Sir John Kerr (The GG is the Queen's representative over here as she cannot be here and in England at the same time to rule over us - so she has a proxy here). Opposition Leader Malcolm Fraser was appointed as caretaker Prime Minister and then won the subsequent election.

Governors have the most power - but - are not voted into their positions by the people. They mainly let things run their course without interference (if you believe that I've got a bridge to sell you).

So, Campbell runs the show publicly, overseen by the Queen's rep.

Just your typical bait and switch, right? In this way, the people can get miffed at the elected puppet and vote in a new one, while the real power lies elsewhere.  ;) ;) :thumb:

He's ex-mil. That makes he view everything as an enemy. Hence his my-way-or-the-highway "we will not apoligise for" stance. You cannot vote in a military guy and then complain when he runs things like the military.
