dynojetting??

My 05 gs500 is fitted with a full stainless race exhaust system and recently serviced with iridium plugs and fitted k and n oil filter and panel air filter . My question is im noticing black suit building up at the tip of the end can and she doesnt feel as responsive .
I was expecting a greater performance boost but this has left me disapointed.
But after being told about dynojetting i thought id ask about it here.
Im unsure weather my bikes running rich or lean. Im guessing its now running too lean? Aa i hear the gs runs lean as standard but this has got me worried because i use the bike every day i dont want to cause engine damage.
Any info on dynojetting or jet stages would be great
Thanks in advance

Craig

Is the black suit dryclean only?

Lots of rejetting info in the wiki:

We generally avoid the dynojet kit, best to go with genuine jets. buddha, a member on here, sells jet kits.
You cannot add a pipe or free flowing filter w/o re-jetting. All you did was make a bad fuel/air ratio.

Panel air filter?... lunchbox K&N I'm guessing, but what part number is it (or pics)?

Your plugs will tell you if its rich or lean.  Pull those and see what they tell you. Simplified version of plug reading: Black = Rich,   White = Lean,    Brown = Good

I couldn't tell you why or if its related that the end of your pipe is suety.. but some should be expected.   If you added an aftermarket exhaust along with a more free flowing air filter, it should be running rather lean, especially if its the lunchbox K&N.  Symptoms of leanness are popping on deceleration or when you let off the throttle.  But, check the plugs to help confirm before you add another variable... just in case there isn't something else going on.

I wouldn't bother with a dynojet kit... just get genuine mikuni jets - its cheaper, and easier since you don't have to change your needles... the board member 'The Buddha' can sell you the carb jet kit exactly for your setup - just pm him the details (model year, exhaust, air filter, and riding location), and he can get you set up for $25 or $33 shipped depending on what you need.

Edit: bluesmudge posted while I was typing it out... posted what I had anyway... ;)

Are we referring about SUITS or SOOT?

Lol, I was an animal sciences major in college, and I typed suet LOL! But yeah soot would be the appropriate homophone...

Thanks for the fast replies folks much appreciated.
Firstly yes i ment soot lol sorry  my bad   O0
Yes its the k and n lunch box filter , also running a full stainless steel delkavic exhaust system with straight through free flowing headers and end can . Also fitted iridium twin pronged spark plugs and k and n oil filter.

Any way as for poping and banging on deacelleration . Its really bad for it. For instance if i accelerate to say 10,000 rpm then shut off its like a machine gun.

As for jets . Would the guy mentioned be able to post to supply to me in the uk?

Thanks again

BockinBboy

Yeah, you're lean.  Go ahead and PM him and see - it might be a little more to ship... or he can tell you what you need, and you can price out the right mikuni jets at a place on your side of the pond.  Either way, I can bet it will cheaper than a dynojet kit, and better off.

I'd use 147.5 mains in that setup.
I am not sure about those part numbers - I buy them as 421-730 (or similar numbers) ...

England shipped with mids will cost you 38 from me - your quote of £22.50 is bloody good.

Cool.

I'm currently running 22.5/62.5/147.5 with a custom exhaust and K&N drop-in.  I'd say test that out as a starting point; if the bike is hard to start and needs a lot of choke when warm then you may have to step up to a 22.5 pilot.

Quick up date

For uk gs owners a company called motocarb.co.uk has given me a quote of £25.40 including delivery for genuine mikuni carb jets as mentioned in the post above.

Anyway ive purchased said jets and ill report back once they land with me in a few days time

Thanks for your help so far folks

And buddha cheers for all your advice

Also took my spark plugs out this afternoon to have a look and the tips are like a gloss white colour im guessing that means my current jetting is mega lean , cant wait to get these new jets  and get them fitted.

Currently she idles quite high but has no power below 2000 rpm just  splutters
Acceleration is very flat through out the rev range and power delivery is not really  very smooth. Also takes an absolute iternity to warm up in the morning
And if i accelerate to say 9000 rpm and shut off the exhaust pops , bangs and some times kicks out small flames.

Its all good fun lol
