Funny how one thing leads to another and before you know it, your daily rider is a project.

Turned out effin fantastic though...   :icon_mrgreen:

- Motor rebuilt with Suzuki 0.5 mm over pistons
- Frame and swing arm powder coated
- New 1-piece upper triple, risers, and fat bar
- Pazzo levers, SV650 master cylinder
- Katana rear wheel with 170 section Pilot Road 3
- Bigger oil cooler

Bike already had an an SV1000/GSXR 750 front caliper with SV Racing Parts adapter bracket, R6 shock, and forks rebuilt with Ricor Intiminators from last summer. Rides GREAT. I'm going to have to put this bike on a track.

These are the people that made it all happen:

Nicest folks you could hope to work with, and very reasonably priced.

Rizomas and Brembos .... Nice!!  :D :thumb:

Cheap, cheap bike looking pimp!

:icon_mrgreen:

I get that for most people they are beginner bikes only, maybe kept around for a season and a couple of thousand miles. But they really are a bit of a gem in the rough.

I'm on the iPad at home ... And the pics were slow loading.... But I also like that oil cooler!! .. And now looked through pics properly ... That is a proper job!!! ...

All nice and mostly stock looking to the casual eye .... But to the keen viewer... All the candy floats into perspective! ... Bravo!

Looks fantastic!!

Quite a change from the Daily driver eh? And where'd you get that oil cooler? That looks awesome!

Wagoneer

That is gorgeous! One of the cleanest GS's I've seen.

It does, and the installation was done very neatly. I didn't even ask for it. I was on the phone with the guys that handled the rebuild and he mentioned in passing that he had given me a larger oil cooler because he thought it would help the motor last longer.

Don't quote me because I don't know the whole story, but if I understand correctly, he uses them all the time in some sort of dune buggie he builds for some racer clients.

4.5" rear opens the door to a bunch of great tire choices. And with 40 HP, you just know I'll be getting 18K out of a set of Pilot Roads.

Give it a couple days and post a review on how the over bored cylinders boost performance. How much was it anyways?
I am into buying bikes that people have given up on and fixing them up!

RIP Patrick Lajko, I miss you man.

Wagoneer

Damn, if I knew a bandit rear tire fit on the GS when I first got mine I would have went that route instead of tracking down a replacement GS rear tire. That 170 rear tire looks awesome! Overkill completely, but that's part of the awesomeness :P Totally dwarfs my little 140 rear tire.

Can't even notice the difference to be honest, but I will be able to tell better once its broken in.

These are not performance pistons. They are OEM 0.5 mm over... I bet you having a fresh top end with good compression makes a bigger difference than the marginal displacement increase of the overbore.

The pistons aren't all that much. You can get a set for $160-165. Suzuki part No. 12100-01D00-050. Too bad I wasn't able to find a set of the full 1 mm over.

GS's don't come out  of the factory that clean, you should be very proud of yourself! Well Done!  :thumb:

It's official - 4.5" Katana rear will work in the stock swingarm.

Also official - not worth it.

Just keep the stocker and get a new set of tires. If you want it to be perfect, you have to machine EVERYTHING that goes on the axle and that includes the hub/sprocket carrier.

Fancy GS500 chain guard looks spectacular in flat black powder coating:

Turn signals were held together with Crazy Glue, got new LED ones:

And to fool myself into thinking the 0.5 mm over pistons actually made a difference, got myself a quick throttle...  :icon_mrgreen:

Just as slow as it ever was, but it gets louder faster. On to the next 30K miles!

Identical to the stock ones, zero difference. None, nada. I kinda expected that though. If finances allow I might get a set of CR Specials and dyno the bike then, but I am so far over budget that I probably won't do it.

Getting that wheel right cost an arm and a leg. Not worth it.

What does the displacement work out to be?

What does the displacement work out to be?

Goes from 487 (stock) to 493.5 (0.5 mm over).
