On a nice summer day we should have a ride where east meets west. Maybe meet somewhere in the mountains (Roslyn?) or wine country.
Or ride over here and spend the night. Do some wrenching. Ride Vashon Island? (West Seattle Bike Cave has spare rooms).

Yuri in Sammamish Washington. I let my 16 year old son buy his first bike a year and a half ago, a '97 GS 500. Little did I know that a year later the engine would seize, and being unable to sell it for a reasonable price I decided to keep it and rebuild it. Of course a 17 going on 18 year old boy has no time for such things, so now his first bike has become my first bike.  :D

He replaced it with a Yamaha V-Star 650 Classic and I pulled the GS apart to attempt to make it work again and make it mine. I'm a total newb so it will be a gradual process. I've already learned a ton on this board though and am really excited to get it done.

Hi to all. I'm Barry and I live in Stittsville, which is a small town just outside Ottawa, Ontario Canada. I've been riding on and off for the past 47 years, initially in England and now part time (weather) in Canada. I picked up a 500F a couple of years ago and have been resting the car ever since. I ride from March through to December and enjoy it enormously.
Back on bikes and loving it.

I am Jo, I am 25 y/o I live in Silicon valley... my current GS500E is my 3rd bike and 2nd GS500. I had a yellow 1999 GS500E that was in great condition but I sold it and moved up to a Yamaha R1. The R1 was too much for me which became apparent a few months later when I laid it down and slammed into a curb... its ok though, I broke the fall with my ribs  :icon_mrgreen: (yes I cracked them good). Anyway I didn't ride for a few years because the R1 accident scared the crap out of me. Well after I had my car repossessed because of a year long unemployment following graduating from grad school I was stuck riding a bicycle for a very long time. I finally got fed up with pedaling everywhere and decided to purchase some cheap transportation, something I could maintain myself and had low operating costs... I decided to get another GS500E

So I found a low mileage orange 1998 GS500E (only 2400 miles) and bought it. Unfortunately it isn't in the best of shape and requires some serious TLC. I am not a very experienced mechanic but I can make do, and I do understand the concepts well enough to not be intimidated by doing my own maintenance and repairs. So I am in the process of resto-modding the bike, I can't afford to completely restore it but I think I can get it in pretty good shape with enough time and patience.

My name is Chris, 22 years old. Ive had my 2007 gs500f for 2 years. Im from upstate NY(near Canada). I dont think there are many GS500 riders around me. Im still waiting for the weather to be warm enough to ride. It's taking too long to warm up here and im getting really anxious to ride. I recently installed a slip on Yoshimura exhaust/new handgrips/new brake and clutch levers/ new footpegs/ and flushmount turn signals and I want to test everything out.

Greetings all! I have been trolling these forums for a month or so and I have found this site to be amazing! I am new to working on bikes and I have learned everything I needed to know from coming here. I purchased a 2005 GS500f in December and I could not be more pleased with it. It was pretty much beat to hell when I bought it. Both side fairings were destroyed, back tire was bald, chain was kinked, and the speedo was bent meaning it had been flipped (probably a few times). The engine ran strong though and had no leaks with only 9,000mi on it ($1300).  :woohoo:
So after getting her street ready and putting a few thousand miles on her I have to say this is one tough Buddha Loves You. I live in Clayton NC and am 37 years old and ready to ride anytime so hit me up if you are in the area. Below are some before and after pictures showing my progress thanks to GSTwins.
