FYI, cheapest way to ship an engine is usually via greyhound. Only works if you both have a station nearby.

Bluesmudge: Thank you for your suggestion.  I searched next-bus-out freight service.  In this area we have Peter Pan/Bonanza bus lines and they have a maximum weight of 100 lbs.  I believe that the GS power unit is at around 125 lbs.

How can miles be verified?

Miles can't be verified.... sometimes you gotta trust someone's word? .... or find another member on here that you trust and knows dynohopp. .. ? They could verify trustworthy. ..

HPP8140: I agree with Janx101; the mileage can't be verified. If you had been present last fall when my son and I removed the engine, then you could have observed the mileage as indicated on the odometer. We installed a newer engine in that bike and my son has put a further 600 or so miles on that frame. I can post a pic of the odometer as it appears today. As far as my character is concerned, dynohopp is also my ebay user name - check my feedback.

HPP8140: Again Janx101 seems to understand how things like this come to pass.  Here's the whole story:

April 2007 - I got into a LOT of trouble with the RI DMV for some high-spirited road riding. Hey, you can take the boy out of the motocross but you may not be able to get all of the motocross out of the (old) boy. 4 violations including the then newly-minted 'aggressive driving'.  The RI state trooper that wrote the tickets informed me that there were some new laws on the books 'to get people like you off the road'.  I can take a hint.  I traded the sport bike for a 2004 GS500 racebike.

2009 - Bought a 2001 GS500 for spares to take racing like CDI, coils, stator, etc. Nice complete, low mileage bike with a broken con rod and no paperwork.

2011 - Bought a 2006 GS500F engine and other parts with the intention of getting the '01 roller up and going for a 1st bike for my son. Aside: for many years in RI one didn't need a title for vehicles 10 or more years old. I install the '06 engine in the '01 roller. Works out good. I go to the DMV where I am informed that the law has changed: for 2011 the 'no title' age is 11 years and in 2012 it will increment to 12 years, i.e. model year 2000 is and will forever be the last 'no title' year.  Rhode Islanders and persons doing business with Rhode Islanders take heed.

2012 - Bought the 1992 GS500 featuring the engine offered for sale in the OP. The bike had been sitting with the tank and carbs full of bad gas and rust. From the outset my intention was to install the '06 engine.  At this point my son gets a girlfriend and the project gets pushed past the back burner and onto the floor behind the stove.

2013 - Son discovers that nothing lasts forever and remembers that there's a GS500 behind the stove with his name on it.  Son asks if we couldn't just clean out the fuel system an get the '92 running as is.  I suspect from past experience that this dog won't hunt but I see a teachable moment.  After a compression test to make sure we have something to start with,
we treat the tank with a 2-part epoxy from Caswell.  We replace both the tank petcock and the frame-mounted selector valve with the '01 parts (and yes this did require some 're-engineering' to get the selector valve mounted to the frame).  We fit new fuel lines and an in-line filter.  We clean the carbs repeatedly.  After a few cleanings the bike starts to run halfway decent.  Still doesn't idle smoothly.  Son says why don't we use the '01 carbs?  I say sure we can if we use the '01 throttle assembly and cables.  And then we might as well use both '01 multi-switches so now we need the '01 wiring harness.  At this point Son says (wait for it...) 'maybe we should use the '06 engine'.  The attached videos are from this time just before the '92 engine was removed from the frame.

And that is how the '92 bike ended up with a '06 engine and the '92 engine is now offered for sale.
