A funny thing happened...

So I had an interesting ride home yesterday.  About halfway home, I noticed that something was blocking my left foot from pressing into the plate by the peg.  Then I started hearing a rattle/scrape.  I pulled over.

My inspection revealed that the bolt holding my muffler to the frame had fallen out.  As a result, the muffler was shifting down and to the right, and the center stand stop was no longer preventing it from hitting my chain.  Sigh.  I rigged up some nylon straps to hold it temporarily, and headed home gingerly.

So, it got me looking at the muffler assembly and what's going down there.  I'm gonna buy a Yoshi exhaust...but it looks like to me where it slips on is located in a way that I will be losing my center stand stopper.  What to do?  How have some of you Yoshi exhaust GS owners dealt with this issue?  I'd rather not remove my center stand....but I really want my Yoshi.

Never mind.  I checked the installation instructions, and there's a spot for the stopper.

Where do you carry things on a GS?  Is there a hidden trunk I'm not aware of? :P
I know a little bit about a lot of things - usually just enough to be dangerous.

My 93 GS500E

On mine there is a small area directly in front of the tail light under the seat.  I believe our bikes came with a small tool kit located in this area.

i wear a pack back at all times.
With a small tool kit, zip ties, water, and a small snack.

Just in case. I did use to ride Korean bikes so I knew it was only a matter of time before that snack was devoured lol.
You don't own a project bike..
The Project bike owns you!

I shove my own toolkit down one side of the rear fairing side bulge... fits neat and stops it rattle around! .. leaves the tail 'storage' area open for my alarm, a small squirt bottle of chain lube, a visor clean kit and a wooly hat/beanie in case my bald head gets chilly on a evening coffee run :)

That is a cool idea Janx!  I never thought of doing that... it certainly would open up the little storage space for my neck warmer and maybe some beef jerky

i had a glock backpack i used exclusively. The wedge can came off of a 2010 gsxr 1000. Had a nice sound, anyhoo the mount wasnt as good as i thought, and the same thing happened. Had a giant ziptie at the time so ivused to to secure pipe. After that, so :/ e blue loctite worked pretty good

Here's the (semi) permanent repair.  One 5/16" x 2 bolt, two washers, two nuts, and loctite.  I feel a bit better.

Now...back to eBay for that Yoshimura TRS...
