Supposed to be riding on Sunday with some work colleagues and contacts... hopefully time for another nice ride!

And hopefully now I've raised the needle and put larger pilots and mains in she won't overheat from being too lean like last ride...

Man, I thought I responded to this last night! what did you change your jets out from/ to?
I'll have no idea what piece you're referring to unless you include one of the following: Doobly doo, thing-a-ma-jigger, or dibbledy dop.

peteGS

The 01 500 carbs have 17.5 pilot, 60 mid main, and 117.5 main. Needle is at one notch above the middle.

I'm now at 20 pilot, 62.5 mid main, and 137.5 main. Needle now is one notch below the middle.

Mixture screws are currently 3 turns out also.

She seems to be, definitely feeling stronger and happier when I get on the throttle, but the real test will be the ride today... can't wait!!

She also got washed and polished for the first time in about 6 months yesterday...

It's been a long time since I washed the bike. But I did manage to take it for a ride on Saturday. Nothing special, just down to the shops and back, but damn it felt nice.

This is, of course, after my younger brother wanted to take it for a run to his work since I haven't been able to ride it. He goes out, spends 15 minutes trying to start it, it won't go. He assumes something has gone wrong, so he kicks over his BMW F650 to go to work, and texts me "something is wrong with the GS, no start. Typical Suzuki."

I go out, give the throttle 2 good squirts, pull the choke on hard and push the button. Starts first turn.

Maybe Spewy just hates him?

Janx101

You shouldn't need to squirt the throttle though? ... just choke and go...... ?

Malfruen

I think it had issues cause it had been about a month since it had last run. Either way, it went, and it went well.

Hey, speaking of sitting bikes, my dad took Thursday out last week and said she's doing well! I'm pumped! Hopefully when I get home I can just get on and ride, instead of having to clean carbs or something  :technical: :technical:

Just get on and ride... I love that feeling!!!

And with the CV carbs on these, pumping the throttle does nothing to help them start, it only opens the butterflies so with the engine off there is no vacuum and you will get no fuel/air mix action... just a wee tip  ;)

Forgot to mention I had to pull over early on Sunday's ride... I had fouled the left plug something shocking! It was running on one cylinder until I cracked the throttle way open... swapped the plugs over and she was good the rest of the morning... something tells my my carbs are waaaaaay out of sync... I know what I'm doing this weekend!!

The warmer weather is here in the USA so less time on-line & more time cutting grass, drinking beer, fixing up outside of house, etc...
Good to see the LPW regulars are keeping this place alive.

I think in the back of my head I knew that, but the front was saying "Remember that old car you had? Remember what you had to do to get it to start?! TURN THE THROTTLE DIPSHIT!!" That car gave me no end of trouble starting, even in summer...

I think what Spewy really needs is a complete overhaul, carb clean, balance...I should replace all the fuel lines since they're getting on 3 years old now, it needs a value check done soon as well. The last one was done about a year ago. Oil and filter needs to be replaced again too...

And I think its probably close to time I get to respraying the fairings. Ruddy rattlecan job just didn't cut mustard. At least I have all the equipment here to do it properly this time.

On a side note, a friend of mine picked up a new Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 yesterday...when I say a friend of mine picked it up, I mean he drove himself and I down to collect it. 150k run out to his place to drop it off. I walked away from it impressed; comfortable, nimble, plenty of pull for a learner legal cruiser. Only drama I had with it was I looked like a gorilla f%$king a tricycle riding it. Almost comically small. He's a shortarse, so the dealer moved the bars and footpegs to match, and swapped the normal seat out for a reduced reach one instead. I reckon if it was all set for my size I would have looked a little cooler on it.

peteGS

That's just no excuse EJ!! No excuse at all!!! Unless there's plenty of riding involved of course... and beer drinking is good...

Definitely get those valves checked Malf, well worth it... mine's nearly due for a service which will include the same and maybe the swapping of the 450 cams for the 01 500 cams as well if I'm feeling keen enough...

I still couldn't do the cruiser thing... although I do like the torque on tap of a big V Twin...
