Hy, i have some problems with the alternator, i think. I hope that ypu guys can confirm this for me. It's a 2005 gs500f model, when i try to start it i just get a tac tac tac sound. A friend told me that it could be a dead battery, and the alternator does not charge it. Any ideeas?

So the problem was solved with the help of a car battery. I connected the car battery terminals to the terminals of my battery, started the car, and Zuki (my motorcycle) started at a push of a button. I will check tomorrow to see if the battery is charged correctly (what is the best way to do this?) and if that goes well, I'll buy a new one this week.

Thanks,
Alex

Hey guys, no opinions here? :(

Here is what i've checked so far:

The regulator voltage at the battery terminals is 11.83 - 12 volts at 5000 RPM, the manual says it has to be between 13.5 - 15.5 V
The alternator no load AC output is ~63 volts between any of the three contacts, the manual says it has to be above 75 V at 5000 RPM, so I guess I have an faulty alternator, but why does it still generates 63 volts, I would aspect to provide 75 volts or nothing .....

What else can I check?

Thanks,

Alex

the starter solenoid maybe? its the thing with the big 20 amp fuse attached.

Did you do tests with a new battery? The voltage coming out the regulator is too low -should be above 13v at least , your alternator voltage might be too low, but I remember mine was in the 60s and it works. Problem is, one does not know if it is the stator, the rotor, or the RR that is the problem..  One needs to proceed by process of illumination (geddit?;-)) . first change RR, then stator, then rotor to diagnose. Unfortunately , all that can get expensive quick.........

Starter solenoid, how do i check it? I have a friend whit a gs500f, will check if hes baytery is good and above 13.5, and try it on Zuki. The bike it's working fine like this but i am afraid it will let me down on the road. Bmf, what do you mean by RR?

If bike starts with known good battery then solenoid is fine. RR is the regulator/rectifier. The voltage controller black box.

Well, the bike starts right away when I connected the car battery, so, I guess the solenoid is fine, I will try to check the regular/rectifier tonight, and I will also check for shorts between the stator and mass. Can somebody with a good charging sistem check the voltage from the alternator, just to be sure that 63 V is ok?

Thanks

Why don't you just get a new battery and fit it? You're going to have to do this anyway, and it takes one variable out of the equation, one less thing to mislead your diagnosis.
Beam me up Scottie....

Youare right jool, but i don't want to buy the battery and find out there is a problem with the r, then buy the rr and fund out that the problem is with the stator.

Anyway, tried out last night with a good battery from another gs and it worked ok. The alternator on the other gs, a 2006 model, was also 63 volts. With the good battery I have around 13.5 volts at the battery terminals at 5000 rpm. Will buy a new battery this days. Thanks.
