Bolt to use as flywheel puller?

Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of removing the flywheel to replace the starter clutch bolts, the Clymer manual says you can use the rear axle as a flywheel puller. Only issue is, the rear axle is actually too big...

The bolt I need is an M14 x 1.5 fine pitch; is there such a bolt on the bike I can pull off and use instead? Local hardware stores don't stock anything above M12.

Cheers!

I went through a similar situation a few years ago on an old Yamaha I was working on. It's literally just a bolt, but if you start looking around for that bolt of appropriate size/thread/length, you'll find that you'll be spending as much or more for the bolt, and you might as well buy the officially marketed flywheel puller (I ended up with a Motion Pro one).

You might be able to fine an appropriate wheel stud at the automotive store, but still may not be cheaper.

I searched and bought a M14x1.5 bolt when I was doing mine but one member posted that the swingarm bolt would fit it and another posted a Honda oil drain plug worked for him.

Do you have ace hardware near you? I was able to buy the bolt an a nice hard spacer out from them for a couple bucks.

Vulcan 750 front axle bolt.
Cool.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll have to give it a go with the swing arm bolt! No local or chain hardware, or bike shop, seems to supply them, very odd.

Man, hit local junkyard. Even the car junkyard may have it.
But if you have like 6-8" free shank length, it works good with sliding hammer.
Cool.
