sitting idle, saw a little smoke and a funny smell...

I was out running errands in the city (stop-n-go traffic). About 25 minutes in, while waiting at a light, I see some smoke coming from the engine area. I smell some chemically smell, reminds me of when I spray painted an old motorcycle pipe to make it look better.

I just recently replaced my gasket on my stator side. I also put on some gasket maker to seal off the area where the stator wires exit. http://www.amazon.com/Permatex-82194-High-Torque-Silicone-Gasket/dp/B000HBGI8K

I can't be sure what the smell is, but any guesses? If it's the gasket silicone, is it natural for it to smoke and smell funny?

I can't remember what it smells like when it's burning, but here's a thought: what about dabbing just a little bit on the engine / exhaust and burning it off? Could be used to identify the same smell.

Oh yeah - the smell could also be something kicked up from the road and just burning off the engine. Wouldn't be the first time for me...

might be just the gasket sealer.. I wouldn't worry about it too much just let it burn off. next time use red. its high temp. the red stuff + a brass pipe plug [from the hardware store] is how I have the port for the mechanical tach doohicky plugged up on the 95 head I have. and I have more issues with the damn head gasket leaking oil then I do that plug.. I still can't figure out why it leaks. when I sealed up the engine I used all new gaskets..
