I have a problem with my gs500. On hot days while driving in the city and stoping at traffic lights esspecialy when engine is hot i have trouble shifting gears up. If i try to shift up it feels like it is stuck, but while stil holding the clutch i rev the engine a bit it shifts as it should with no problem. Any suggestions?
Tried with new oil and put 20w-50 and the story is the same, also tried adjusting the cable for the clutch and under the leftcover.

What kind of boots do you wear?

If I take my GS for a ride with sneakers on I am always surprised how much harder it is to shift compared to wearing a pair of motorcycle boots with a TPU shift pad.

Also check that the shift lever is at an angle that facilitates transferring the vertical force of your foot to the rotation on the shift linkage.  Just because it has all those splines doesn't mean it will work in all positions.

I have found a similar situation, when very hot, but changing to 20w50 solved it. Perhaps you could try a different brand or spec of 20w50.

Try going a little faster in the gears before u shift, and do it in a positive manner.

I found a similiar problem with an sv650 motor a few years ago ( actually a Cagiva Raptor 650 which is a modded SV650). It hated Motul. As soo as I switched to something else it fixed it. Worth a look.

I tried going little faster the problem is same it shifts only if i rev a bit with clutch engaged. It has 20w-50 Valvoline semi synthetic, but the problem is still here. i am thinking of taking left cover out to see what is happening.

The bit about revving to shift has got me curious.

Are you allowing the revs to drop to idle before shifting?  If you are try shifting faster.

Also you could try shifting without pulling the clutch in (clutch-less shifting).  Simply apply upward pressure on the lever and very briefly and very slightly let off the throttle.  If that works for you, you can practice until you can clutch-less shift smooth.

Clutchless shift is possible but not a long term solution. .

Shifting smoothly and reasonably quickly is good. ..

Where in the rev range are you starting your shifts when it's giving you troubles?

I just went for a ride and I felt no resistance upshifting while the revs were still high or when I let them drop to 1.2k

So I guess it shouldn't matter how swiftly you change gears?

Out of curiosity, are you sure you don't have too much oil in the bike? When you check the oil, are you on center stand or side stand?

Problem sorted, the central nut of the clutch gasket was loose. I supose someone before me did not torque it properly.
