Okay, inspired by bikes like the "KTM Duke 2" and even the "Honda Grom" I played a little with Paint.NET (like photoshop but free) and came up with this:

atm my GS is relatively stock, some little changes like bars, exhaust, etc... but this will be the first big changes I'm doing on a bike.
Hope I get this done, luckily a friend of mine will help me who works as a car mechanic.

So does anyone have some ideas what could look even better? or what to look out for while trying to build that?

Oh, and has anyone an idea which seat could maybe fit relatively good? I used Kreidler SM 125 seat in the pic, but idk if it would work in real life.

I think it'd be easier to just modify the stock seat by pulling the cover, making your foam shaped the way you want, then re-cover it so it is shaped like the seat in the picture.

Then get a set of broken/donor side plastics and google "plastic welding" to start on a long, difficult road of trying to make the sides look like that.

Putting on a headlight&fairing from whatever donor bike that has that style on it should be comparably simple.

Yeah, thought about that one, too.
But I'm not sure if it would look that good compared to a "real" sumo/dirtbike seat?

yeah, changing the headlight is of course the easiest part about this.

(Translation: Take the whole rear frame of a dirt bike, put in a longer swing and a dirt bike fork, spoke rims and hand protectors. Move the exhaust up. Done.)

Guess we should talk English in a English speaking board... :D

Yeah, well, all that stuff would be way above the budget I can put into the build.
Things like the swing, the fork and the wheels could be altered later on, but are not necessary atm, as the budget is rather small.

Hand protectors are maybe planned, not sure about it tho, moving the exhaust so it fits the rear is also planned, if necessary.

But the idea with the dirtbike rear frame sounds not that bad, could be better than just trying some bullshit with the original frame.

I'm just going to say it....

If the bike is that ugly in concept art I can't wait to see how ugly it will be in real life. Do whatever makes you happy but I hope you are not cutting up a stock GS that is in good condition.

gregjet

Much easier to make the side panels in fibreglass/innegra

ShowBizWolf

+1 for fiberglass... gregjet beat me to it lol

Good luck on your project Ne0n

thanks for the tips and stuff.
Did a little bit more editing on the concept, puttin the rear a little bit higher.
Tried moving the exhaust up too, like it is for supermotos, but didnt liked the look of it.
Would need to adjust the angle of the exhaust tho so it fits the angle of the rear.

How about this for inspiration?  It's the Vitpilen 701, hopefully to be released soon by Husqvarna

It's one of the prettier bikes I've seen of late    http://www.sportrider.com/gallery-husqvarna-vitpilen-701

2007 GS500F Cafe Fighter - cut off the tail, K&N lunchbox, short exhaust, 20/60/140 jets, R6 shock, all sorts of other random bits...

Ne0n

Yeah, that one looks neat!
Lil bit to oldschool for me, I'm more into those really modern looking bikes, but especially the rear looks great. :)
Good inspiration, thanks!

Looks like an old MB5, which Ironically I believe the GS was made as an improvement on IMHO.

You man this 80s monstrosity?

I can't imagine how a 50cc 175lb overgrown moped could be at all related to the GS500, but I really don't know anything about the genesis of the GS500.

Hate to think where your pods are gonna end up when you have to slam on  :D

Seats like that work on crossers and trialers because the rider puts far more weight down through his legs, on a road bike its an accident waiting to happen  :dunno_black:

Found this when scrolling through a google search for custom gs500... reminded me of this thread!

If you go that style road, a more tapered ( conical) muffler will look better I think.
Ignore other peoples negative comments on looks. We all have different things we like. I am not a fan of the Vit Husky look, but I appreciate the style idea.
I also dislike the "cafe" style round bump rears. The original cafe racers did that for two reasons. They were copying the race bikes of the day that concentrated ALL their efforts on fairing the front without recognizing the flow release was as important.
AND there was race regulations that stipulated the size and position of the rear of the seat. There still is. The MotoGP bikes have strict rules of a similar nature, which is why instead of fully fairing the rear of the rider ( more like the 80's and 90's bikes) we have the tiny rear cowls.
A contemporary "cafe" racer built to the same ideas of copying the current race bikes would look very different from the current late 60's early 70's look.

Wow! I'm hold myself back from my grinder.  I would like to make something like that.... perhaps after college.....  :technical:

Well, ya know, it never works as planned.
The engine of my car blew up, and my new car was wrecked 3 days after I bought it, so budget was and still is super low.
As I have not the skills to build a custom rear myself, I'm trying to at least get done what I can by myself.

As I said, budget got tighter and tighter, but I still got something done and got the light mask on the bike.
Looks really dope in my opinion:

Also I have some cross bike bars and some 2-finger brake/clutch levers in the mail which should arrive soon.
(Shoutout to 'iamhiding' for stealing his idea of the cross bike bar  )

Ugh, sorry to hear about your bad luck there Ne0n!! But yes, that mask looks neat :thumb:

remember that time something went to plan? ... nope me neither  :icon_lol: gutted to hear it neon, hope it works out as you have some interesting ideas.

always loved the mx style number plate headlight look. how do you find the light output? mostly the output is pretty pathetic/dangerous with that style in general, i've had to stop myself buying one a few times.
