Like so many before, I've moved on from Pokey, the humble GS. I wish that he'd moved on running, but I've handed the bugger to my nephew to wrench on.

After several restless months and tanks of fuel burnt following Craigslist leads, this lithe-yet-stout lady and I are getting to know each other. I didn't realize it at the time of purchase, but the bike has a K&N filter and air box mod and TFI FI adjuster (knew about that, but seller called it a PC III in the ad). This is QUITE a powerful bike. I was purposely looking for a stock Bandit 1250 as that is quite enough for me. However, the mods don't turn it into a whale-tail Porsche - it remains quite controllable if respected. The only drawback is the MPG worse than my Dad's old Chevy Cruze Eco. If I can't figure out a way to average MPG somewhere in the 40s, this may be a short fling. It will certainly be exciting in the nevertheless. We'll see how it goes.

So thanks for all the trades, sales, purchases, contributions and just plain help (special shouts out to anyone who put up with all those PMs). One thing I know I'll miss is being able to buy specialty parts made by members (fork brace? sliders? anybody..?)

If anyone knows a really good Bandit forum, please share.

Whoa..... that's no VX!

CWJ, I can't recommend a "good" bandit forum that isn't located in the UK. But there is a huge thread on ADVRider dedicated to all the Bandits (600, 1200, 1250, etc). I'm sure if you wanted to return that to stock, you could find the stock bits pretty quick / cheap.

Good to see you got a Bandit.... I have to say if I were to ever get a bigger bike, it would probably be a 1200.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Yeah, it isn't  :) . I looked for a little while after I moved back south, but there just aren't that many down here in the ArkLaMissTex. Plus, I really am no longer in the mood to mess with carbs. I was looking hard at VFR800s, but decided to go with the simplicity of the Bandit. It's a real hoot to pull the clutch, hit start and be amazed as the B12.5 immediately goes to just-under 1K and stay there...and it's a BLESSING not smell like exhaust after every ride now.

The funny part to me is that I never would have even considered the Bandit if the Suzuki Demo I went to in May would have had the S750 that I wanted to ride available. Now I need to find some gold in the backyard so I can throw an electric kit on my Schwinn and balance out my carbon footprint  :embarassed: .

It seems like the best US forums for the Bandit are TwoWheelTexans & ADVRiders. That sucks because it makes searching for info more tedious. Not to mention the depression from seeing all the great parts they have that are rendered cost-ineffective with shipping and conversion rates.

You found a new project yet?

Very nice man! She's a beaut! She'll be a lot of fun and  will surely turn some heads.  Congrats!  I've decided my next bike will either be a Bandit or an SV1000.  Both are extremely nice to look at.  But i'll be keeping my 500 unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse without me advertising.  I've grown quite fond and sentimental over the critter.

Thanks, Sir. My attention was turning to the SV1K when this one came up with a reduced price. I started looking at the SV again when I saw that the wheelbase was longer than the 650 and it included a steering stabilizer. However, I wanted handlebars instead of clip-ons and decided to take the path of least resistance.

If only we in the states got the "N" version of the SV1 for more than one year...

No doubt the GS still holds a special place. I'll still run a search on C-List just to see if there are any around and how much people under/overvalue them  :D  .  I even saw one and thought about picking it up, but I need something to keep up with my brother's new Road Glide for now.

My Buell isn't known to be fuel efficient, being a Harley 1200cc V-twin and all, but I still get 45+/- mpg.
I'd imagine you should be in the 40s, I wonder how hard it would be to detune a little for more efficiency.

Good choice, you won't be disappointed  :thumb:

Nice bike!  I would think with some fuel re-mapping you could get better mileage.  Is it running a Power Commander or other FI interface program?

Try these guys for a forum:  http://www.maximum-suzuki.com/forums/index.php

I've been a member (DR part of the forum) for a number of years.  Lots of good info.  Griff runs the place like Hitler and that's no joke, but it's a great running forum because of it.  :police:

Oh, yeah...and Dale Walker (Holeshot Performance) has his own area on the site so best check that out too.  You have to become a member to see anything on the site though.  :thumb:

40mpg on one run and 37 on the next (and the 40 included some sprints up into the XXX digits  :dunno_black: .

I'm in contact with Dale Walker already. I need to go through and confirm everything that was done to the bike.

Thanks, Arpee. I'll take a look at the at site.
