i would go to a sv but i haven't developed the skills yet (not imo atleast)

An SV650 doesn't require any unique skills compared with a GS500. They are quite similar in this respect. I hope you read this and take it seriously!

You have a point about the insurance.

ik whats the acceleration difference like? is it like r6 acceleration or gs500 with a higher top speed?

Despite the SV having a larger volume, the 600cc class of sportbikes are actually more powerful, by quite a bit.

According to the figures on the Wiki (not to be taken as accurate) the 2014 GSXR 600 makes ~103 HP and ~45 lb/ft of torque.
The 2014 SV650 makes ~73 HP and ~47 lb/ft of torque.

"Wait a minute, the SV has more torque!"
Yes, but torque is just a measure of rotational force, how "hard" the engine wants to pull you.  You could say that higher horsepower means higher top speed while higher torque means faster acceleration.  However, due to gearing that isn't always the case.  Usually in regards to these bikes the higher torque simply translates to more usability in town.
A GSXR will need to be wound up high to go fast and may require a downshift to do something like overtake another vehicle, while the SV is more likely to just go when you give it gas.  But the GSXR will smoke the SV in a straight line race...

So to answer your question, no it won't accelerate like an R6, it'll be more like a beefed up GS500.

My brother doesn't pay much more for insurance on his SV than I do. Liability on a motorcycle is minimal anyway, and is practically nothing compared to a car.

The SV is in a totally different class than the R6. You're talking about comparing a v-twin with an inline 4. Just because the displacement is close to the same, doesn't mean the power band is. The SV will accelerate faster than the GS and has a higher top speed, but the R6 is going to have much more top end power than both.

I'd say it's never the case. It's always horsepower that moves the vehicle. More horsepower means faster acceleration and faster top speed and faster everything.

The reason people have the impression that "more torque" means faster acceleration is because they shift gears before reaching the horsepower peak. So yeah, if you shift both bikes at 7K rpm then the SV will accelerate way faster. But if you wind them both to their respective redline then the 4cyl bike will smoke the twin in acceleration.
