Hello everybody.  I'm new and still trying to get the hang of how to do things on the forum.  I've read many of the threads here and I liked all the cool info you all share with each Other. I am proud to have a 2005 gs500f that I have customized to my personal liking.  I understand some people may not agree with or even like what I have done. But I did everything to my personal liking and am not worried about those who will not like. I'm more interested in sharing info and advice back and forth with any fellow bikers. I'm glad to be part of this awesome informative forum.  I'll be posting a few pics and talking about what I have done and may do in the future.  Thanks.  It's a pleasure to be part of your forum

Clean bike and nice color scheme.  Couple things I'd do differently, but as stated, it's what you want so rock it. Welcome!

Thanks Suzi Q. I want to remove the mirrors and add some handlebar end mirrors.  By the way, What would you do differently? Any advice is welcomed.

A few questions: Would you mind posting your front suspension mods (if any)? I'm considering lowering my triple tree to mount clip-ons as you have, but I am worried about the outer fork tube hitting the bottom clamp if I bottom out the suspension. Has that been an issue for you? If so, how did you mitigate it? Also, how have the clip-ons affected your handling? Obviously lowering the front end is going to affect steering geometry, and I'm hoping it feels that much more sporty as well as looking the part.

As for your bike:

Things I like: The color scheme isn't necessarily something I'd pick myself, but it looks pretty clean and the scheme is consistent which is good. Exhaust is pretty cool too. Also, big fan of the clip-ons, makes the bike look a bit more sporty/aggressive. Tank protector is a nice aesthetic touch, even it doesn't get used much due to the ergonomics of the GS lol.

Things I would change: without bar ends, the handlebars look sort of... unfinished? I don't know exactly the right word for it but it just feels like something is missing there. But, you mentioned adding bar-end mirrors so that would probably fix that. Also, I'm not a huge fan of the completely blacked out windscreen. I know its not like you're actually likely to be in a situation where visibility depends on it, but it just looks a bit weird to me. Also, the Suzuki logo decal on the windscreen is a bit much, IMO.

Overall, pretty nice looking bike and I love your attitude. At the end of the day, its your bike and if it makes you happy, that's what's really important. Ride your own ride mate.

Thanks for the feedback. Im actually waiting on my chrome spike bar end weights to get here. I had put the same kind on the old handlebars before I got the clip ons. I'll post a pic with the old handlebars so u can see the spikes I'll be putting on my current clip ons. As for the tank pad. You would be surprised how much you use it with the aggressive posture you get from clip ons.  If u notice I put the clip ons on top of the triple but I removed the top plate in order to get the clip on lower and still keep them on top of the triple,  along with not having to lower the front end much. This way I only had to lower it about an inch or less. So I don't have any suspension issues what so ever.  The top plate is not critical but does serve as a bracket for the Speedo/ tach. I am working on a new bracket and have a temporary mock up strap holding it till I complete The bracket.  My old bars were club bars that I had custom made myself.  I opted for the even more aggressive posture from the clip ons.  Thanks. Hope that helps

Thanks for the info on your setup. Could you post a close-up picture of how you've mounted the gauges?

Brother. I just strapped it so it wouldn't be hanging for the mean time. I'm not using my bike until I finish fabricating the bracket.  I'll make sure to post some pics brother.

Here's the old handlebars with the spike ends I'm putting on my clip ons.

I like it!  Love me some white wheels.  I think the tank stripe looks out of place but not really a big deal.  Swingarm is swee-eet.  really like it.

Thanks.  I ordered the swingarm from a custom fab shop in California.  It worked great. It was really hard to find for this bike. I think the tank pad looks better in person.  A lot of local bikers compliment it. The previous owner had laid it down and cracked the side fairing.  I had them fixed and painted with the new scheme at a paint shop

Mostly, I'd peel off the flowmaster and comp cams stickers.  :thumb:

If I was nitpicking, I'd level out the exit on the exhaust exit, but that's just my preference for straight lines.

Also, while I don't think stretched bikes are practical for MY style of riding, that doesn't change the fact that they are damn sexy.

And also; whenever I see pointy bar ends, I can't help but envision abdominal punctures and lacerations in a crash.

Any link to the swingarm shop that made it for you?

Thanks for the advice brother.  :thumb: I guess everyone has different taste. Obviously, my bike does not have a flowmaster or comp cam (hahaha). My buddy gave me those stickers for the bike, as its very common for bikers to sticker up their bikes with their favorite companies or brands, etc. U should see some of the bikes down here.  Including my buddies zx6r, and another Daytona 675. They look sick. Really Awesome!!

I debated on whether or not that was a civic flowmaster welded in there or not. Used to build and race cars, and we only used the stickers for stuff we actually used...they pay contingency money for 'em. Maybe I missed it, but are you in US or somewhere else?

I appreciate your interested -cbrfxr67-. The swingarm gets a lot of attention and cost me a pretty penny. They don't have a link brother.  It's a small car and motorcycle fab shop that's owned by 3 brothers. They specialize in american muscle cars, but had a few custom bikes outside . I noticed their shop when I was visiting family in San Bernardino.  (I'm from California originally). I had been looking  for a custom swingarm for months. Anyways, they were really nice guys, and let me know they could do it, but they don't usually fabricate swingarms.  I was tired of searching and they seem to do nice quality work, so I went for it. They needed my bike to fabricate the new swingarm. Luckily my cousin has a 2007 gs500f we took to them. They used the dimensions to fabricate the new longer swingarm with everything it takes and my cousin was able to send it my way when it was complete. It was a clean fit. I was really glad. Plus it did cost me an arm and a leg.

Wow. Not what I was saying at all. There are a great many responses that come to mine, but I will take the high road and simply unsubscribe. Best of luck with your bike.

I apologize if I misinterpreted your messages. And with all honestly, you misinterpreted my message Suzi Q.  I'm not upset brother. I was just saying, " we get it man. " stickers aren't your thing.

Anywaaayyyyyysss..... i while back I ordered a 18 tooth front sprocket since I had read about it helping some guys get more miles out of each tank of gas. Along with longer gears. I rode around with the 18t for a few weeks and decided to go back to the 16t. I'm glad I tried it and may some day go back to the 18t sprocket if I decide to travel a long distance.  But I really do enjoy the torque you get out of a 16t sprocket. I think  the engineers at Suzuki got it right. Though I would like to try a 14 or 15t some day.  Anyone have any experience?
