Can anyone recommend or warn against any particular oil filters ? I see they range between £4 and £15 !! 

I use what ever I can find in a brick and mortar shop first.. normally its a FRAM because it comes with an o-ring, but this last time I believe it was NAPA brand.

I just recently watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0qaR37f00w and I decided to go with an OEM filter and o-ring.

Last few times I used fram I had problems with their gasket. Also, the parts store said they were discontinuing the Fram oil filter for my bike. So now I have to pre-order a k&n. But I now prefer that choice anyways.

I use OEM.....I buy a few at a time to save on shipping.

Fram filters are so-so IMHO and their O ring is crap...

+1 for the Fram o-rings being crap. When I changed my filter this spring i bought a Fram filter with the o-ring in the kit. It leaked!  I tried re-torquing the cap, but it still leaked. So I bought another filter (a Fram again) to get a new o-ring. It STILL leaked! Eventually I bought 3 new OEM o-rings from the not local dealer and guess what - no leaks!

Now I have used Fram filters ever since I've owned the bike and I've not had a problem with leaking before, so I'm guessing that they have changed some aspect of the o-ring which has resulted in the whole leaking thing.

I do quite regular oil changes (commute every day plus weekend rides) - always use a OEM filter with a fresh o-ring.

Never had any dramas and I don't think the filters are too badly priced for OEM parts (actually I don't think any parts are badly priced for GS5s).

Cheers all.  Going for the local dealer supply.  £6.86 each.  Seems about middle of the road price for OEM.  Got 3 of these bikes to tinker and fix now !!  hopefully get them all going but at least parts to make 2 good ones  ! 

I also use OEM filters. Make sure to order 2 or 3 any time I order other parts.
I replace with an OEM o-ring/gasket every 2 or 3 oil changes.

1OEM air filters and oil filters are ridiculously expensive in Australia, for example OEM air S40 is $52, even with postage from the or Amazon it's cheaper but the postage bumps it up. I'm fairly confident that all these types of filters are the same quality, especially if one does frequent oil changes which I do, usually about every 4-5 months at 4000 miles.
