I have a friend that builds gas powered knee scooters (complete with an anti-tipover outrigger) for guys like you.  :kiss3:

The little sucker will do 25+ mph!
He's got it perfected... well, everything except the brakes.  :icon_rolleyes:

Getting slack with the progress pic's... working on the under seat storage compartment at the moment which is where the USB charger will live also, haven't worked out what I'm doing about a lid though. Initially thought don't need one, but then thought it might be best as I really don't want stuff flying about under there on bumpy roads, especially if there's a phone or GoPro battery charging in there. I shall see what I can figure out...

have you considered making it either waterproof or resistant? (as much as possible?) even though seat covered moisture can get nearly everywhere.

Sheet of 3mm polymer or similar...size= Overlap the top edges of the compartment by twice its depth. Cut off the corners diagonal by single depth... Heat the sheet in the oven till its floppy..using gloves! And quickly but carefully! Lay the sheet on a flat surface and put your storage box upside down on the sheet..
Lift the edges up over the sides off box and push them down onto the base surface....
Let it cool and trim away (got a band saw?) the excess polymer on base till just a little of the bottom fold is wrapped under the edge. ...
Pop it apart and drill yourself a finger hole... Or bolt a very flat latch ring to the polymer so you can pop it up and down when its installed. Get some cheap foam rubber and glue inside the polymer lid.. Just enough thickness so it can form around contents of box and stop them slide!

Abracadabra!

nice idea there. just dont use the missus' or the household oven for this.

Yep, nice thinking Janxy!

The box is being made out of 1mm aluminium sheet, just need to finish the holes to mount the USB and aux power modules in the front wall. I still have to flatten the bottom so it sits nicely on the tray under the seat. I'm just bolting it down so it can be removed. If I ever put the Kat back to dual seat it won't fit under a stock seat pan.

My thought last night was just some elastic cargo netting over it (I have some sitting around here) but of course no waterproofing there.

I do have some smoked clear acrylic perspex from making the fly screen for the 450 though...

One thing I'm confused on is your cut diagonally comment... I get cutting them diagonally so you can fold the sides down, it's the "by single depth" which has me confused...

Oh, and when making the 450 fly screen I just used a heat gun rather than the oven, worked well enough  :thumb:

Also, yep, the box will absolutely be lined with foam rubber, that was definitely in the plan to protect whatever sits inside there  :thumb:

I really am slack with pic's... got the front of the box rivetted on last night with the holes drilled/filed out to take the two aux type devices. All I need to do is sort the mounting holes to attach it to the rear tray that sits under the seat and I'll be ready to decide what's happening for a lid. I like the perspex idea, just gotta translate Janxy's thoughts into actual execution.

I was planning on running some rubber U channel around the top edge so I'll need to take that into account when moulding the perspex as well.

Err.. By single depth... Yeah made sense at the time... Novella length post and all that... Diagomal cuts to the point where it will fold down across the single depth of the box... Maybe? Lol...
Or just take a squarecout of each corner. If you have a bandsaw!.. If a handsae then diag is easier to not fracture the material near the eventual first bend point...

The u channel is gonna give dramas with this type lid... It'll drag off all the time... Umm... Thin flat rubber strip glued around inside edges of the lid maybe? .  to stop lid rattle..
But if its a tight mold and with foam inside its gonna be snug anyway!

peteGS

Yep, thinking the U channel will likely be unnecessary actually... I think I know what you meant so I best just give it a shot I reckon  :thumb:

Can't see me getting to it today though, want to try to get all these aluminium and steel bits ready for paint as I'd ideally like to paint them next weekend.

Today's list of stuff to do... finish up the storage box (flatten the bottom bits and drill mounting holes), finish tidying the welds on the battery/electrics tray, and make a centre stand bump stop. If I have time I'm going to try some heat and air pressure to pop the majority of the dent in the tank out. Can't see me getting all that done but see how I go. Gym first though...

Photo time!!

Centre stand bump stop, should hold it high enough to have no clearance issues in corners...

The storage box sans lid, will make that after paint most likely.

Getting set to paint, this week's job is to prep all these bits, and hope like hell it's not a wet weekend next weekend so I can get it done.

Long way to go yet! Got about an hour in the shed last night and based on that I think I'll have enough time to get the prep work done. To have any chance of spraying this weekend I need them ready to walk in and start the etch primer first thing on Saturday morning. Two coats of that with 15 mins between, wait an hour then 3 coats of primer surfacer with 5 mins between.

I won't get the colour done on Saturday so that will be a Sunday morning affair... 3 or 4 coats with 5 mins between.

It's all going on aluminium or galvanised steel so the etch primer is a must in addition to the primer surfacer.

Indeed  it will be exquisite.  as much as it iis now, it will end up even better. thought about painting the cow in some cow themed scheme. (sticking to the blue and silver idea. but that is an idea for another date.) working on horn and lighting next along with the metal wheel idea. although it isnt necessary,. it would help with descending hills.. anyways sorry lol. lets redirect my de railing of thread back to the kit kat :).

You could do blue/silver cow spots... that'd be some fancy cow!

Oh, and this is LPW, didn't think there was a thread/theme/continuity thing?  :icon_lol:

I did get more sanding done last night though, still on track for prep work to be done in time for painting on the weekend  :thumb:

i know my friend, just that its beeen the defacto build thread for the kat since i started mine in o&e. anyways thinking the repaint. heck since i already have blue on it could paint the silver spots. but then again a full on repait would probably be better.
