Is it turning over? If it is turning over, then check the spark plug and plug boots. Check if they're cracked or not seated properly.

If it isn't even turning over, check out the connections to the starter solenoid, to the right of the battery.

Yep - something in the ignition system. Next time it's dry and starts, try spraying water out of a bottle on various parts of the system (starting with the crank trigger area on the right side of the motor). Don't drown it though! A little bit of water won't hurt anything, and it might make your motor sputter when you get close.

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Yes the missing  badge. Mine was missing as well. On 4 out of 6. Only one of 4 had the wet starting issues.

How much does a whole case go for?

If you can't find the billet ones or whatnot, perhaps the emblem would suffice. Such as

Shortly after I bought my GS I replaced that cover with a new one as well. Any motorcycle part website that sells OEM would be a good place to purchase from. My favorite is Motosport.com :thumb:
Superbike bars, '04 GSXR headlight & cowl, DRZ signals, 1/2" fork brace, 'Busa fender, stainless exhaust & brake lines, belly pan, LED dash & brake bulbs, 140/80 rear hoop, F tail lens, SV650 shock, Bandit400 hugger, aluminum heel guards & pegs, fork preload adjusters, .75 SonicSprings, heated grips

Chuck81 on this board sells a version of the cover in solid aluminum. It doesn't have the hole in it so no need for the Suzuki emblem sticker over it.

You can order the original from any Suzuki parts dealer. For example Bike Bandit has the signal generator cover for $37.95 and the emblem sticker that goes over it for $16.29
