My son and I just picked up a 2002 GS500... Looking forward to learning much!

A project indeed! Looks like its raining paint thinner in that photo

What is your end goal? Something safe and functional, or a more outlandish conversion?

Watch out as you look for parts. The 2001 and 2002 GS500s are sort of bastard years. They have a lot of parts interchangeable with '89 - '00 and '04-'09 but also some unique parts, like the carburetors. In general, think of them as an '04+ but without an oil cooler.

Welcome to the forum! Wow yes, that GS is certainly in need of some TLC... just looking at those fuel lines being routed wrong is giving me anxiety LOL!

Keep us posted on your progress... start a thread about it in the Projects/Builds section

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah it really is going to be a project. I think the end goal is upgraded stock... Keep it looking stock, but performance upgrades all around... First new handlebars... and figure out the bolt size for the starter bolts... A lot is missing...

Thanks again!
