I am looking to replace my chain on my 2007. The chain may be original because it doesn't look like any of the replacement ones. The link pins almost look like a square on the ends.

My question is, what does everybody use to replace the chain? I found two types. One that the master link has to be pressed in and the other has the clip style master link. I m used to the clip style but I haven't replace a chain on a motorcycle.

Any input or opinions would be appreciated.

I've used clip style master link and rivet style. I've never had an issue with a clip master link. I currently have a clip master link X-ring 110 link 520 chain on the GS. If it was a bike with 100+hp I might be more apt to go through the trouble with a rivet style but the GS just doesn't produce enough power to worry about it. Any O-ring or X-ring chain that is the right size and length will be fine.

If you do have the original chain it will have to have a rivet pressed out or you will have to cut the chain because it is a continuous style that was put on with the swing-arm. There is no master link to remove on the OEM chain.

Link and Clip all the way.
Also look at the teeth on the cogs to see if they look worn out. You can tell because they start looking like hooks as one side wears down.

Out of curiosity are you replacing with an o-ring, X-ring or a no-ring chain?
