Hi everyone,  I'm Brendon from Christchurch,  New Zealand and proudly own a 2007 GS500F. I got my learner bike license late last year and started my motorcycle journey on a 2011 gn125. Great little bike, but when my GS popped up for sale, I had to have it. My GS500F was imported into NZ from Australia in 2016 with 12,000kms on the clock. I bought it on the 29th December 2021 at 22,400kms. It's now at 23,900kms. I sold my work hack, and now ride my bike full time to work and I enjoy every minute of it.

Hi Everyone! I'm Roofaloof from Seattle, WA, USA.

After years of not having a bike, I'm so excited to have my 2006 GS500F! I just bought it from Craigslist a week ago.

Right now it's slightly apart as I get it prepped for riding. It's getting tires, fluids, tuneup, and some assorted other things.

I'm glad to have found this forum and look forward to chatting with you!

Hey :)  I'm Melissa from central Queensland, Australia. After far too many years having my Learner bike licence I finally bought Dog in December and started riding. Got my restricted licence last month and am looking forward to a few more years of adventures on my trusty 2001 GS500 (she has a different tank - 05 I think). This forum has been useful so far and I'm very glad it's still kicking!

Cheers

EDIT: Sorry I didn't resize the photo right - can't remove or fix :(

Hey all,

I'm a relatively new 07 GS500F rider, not by choice but by fate (dropped while trying :hithead:).

This forum has been a treasure trove of info, and I look forward to bugging folks about how to get my bike working better!

Bought the gs in bits and I have spent the last few weeks reassembling old Scratchy. After years of larger cruisers this little bike is a breath of fresh air.
Looking forward to tweaking it with what I learn here. Cheers!!

Hello friends,

Here in the PNW I'd let my 2006 sit at my parents for a few years and I'm here to let the world know why that is a terrible idea and to repent for my sins lol.

I've had to replace the fuel tank, petcock, lines, etc. I've taken the carb apart a total of three times just getting it not to leak fuel and halfway through this process I poked a hole in that plastic sight glass in the master cylinder. Undeterred I pushed forward with the best financial advice I've ever received. Put a dime and some jb weld over it...http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=62714.0
I bought a nice flea-bay oil level sight glass intending to tap the master but honestly I kind of love the Roosevelt where it is.

Now I thought I had everything up and running fuel wise when I realized on the freeway my max speed was about 60 uphill and 70 downhill. I've added some fuel system cleaner in the hopes that this will return some of the power without having to do a full rebuild but based on what I've read so far my expectations are not high.

All this is really to say hello as a new user on the forums and hope for any advice y'all can present. I'm looking through the upgrades and carb cleaning sections of the forum and hope to find some good rebuild kits also thank you to Reckoning for the 10ยข tip and BaltimoreGS for his carb removal and cleaning video.

Have yourselves a wonderful day.

bmckzari

To whom this may concern,
Hello, bmckzari here. I'm a 30yo living in Los Angles. Recently I picked up my first bike, a 2007 GS500 (I also bought the Haynes repair manual for safe keeping). This is a second/third-hand bike. It has a little over 26,000 miles. I already had to take it to a shop for some valve issue. Shims were not added right and looked like someone shave the valve for clearance or something I just know the numbers were all really different. I don't know, but crazy and just screwed the bike up. Definitely, there are more problems I have to fix in both the near and far future. Now it's idling high when I'm at a stoplight. Then (if in neutral) it won't go into first. Almost if the bikes not letting it. So I'll killswitch it and then get into it first or I'll just stay in first until I need to go. Just all-around problems. Plus I need new tires and literally don't know why I can't just go somewhere that has what I need. I'd assume SoCal would be more friendly with the tire help for bikes. Yet maybe I don't know all that I should know. Still, I'm a beginner rider in the worst city to practice in. I want to walk in and wait for the change to be done. It seems hard to get that tire size for the bike.
Maybe the bike has to adjust to the work that's been recently done, maybe there is still more work to be done now that something was fixed properly. Of course, there are things on the bike I want to change. To make it my own. The headlight fixture, the turn signals (both front and back), the rotors, mirrors, phone charge adaptability, literally everything that needs to be done. HAS TO BE DONE. So if anyone has any advice, ideas, links, or anything related to the bike. Please let me know however you can. It's greatly appreciated. Just want /need to keep this bike running so I can push it to the limit to get a new bike. For now, I'm loving her. My little commuter stallion still needs more TLC. Thank you, and sorry for the little venting lol. Had to be done.

Hi all, I'm Alex from a small town in central BC, Canada.
Had a dirt bike when I was 14, then was forbidden to have a motorcycle through the bonds of marriage.
Now that's over, ran out right away got my license and picked up a 2007 GS500F.
Done a few minor upgrades and some issues have arisen but will post them in the other threads.

Toado

Hi all, Tony from the UK here. I am a returning rider after many years off and I have just bought a 2003 GS after a spontaneous EBay bid. Picked it up last weekend and then rode it home in a deluge, complete with some pretty spectacular lightening. Very happy to be back on a bike and even happier to have found this site and community!

Hey everyone,
My name is Dean and I just joined. I live in VA and have a wife and three kids. Commute to work daily on an 09 GS500f to save money on gas. Have had the bike for 5 months now. Only been riding motorcycles for 2 years. Previously had a 98 Suzuki DR350se. Joined the group because everyone seems to be knowledgeable in the forms and I'm looking to make minor upgrades to the 500. Figured there was no better way than to join the group.
