Slight Engine Tick sound when pulling the throttle.

Hey!

So I would like to ask why is their a slight tick noise in the engine when I am pulling the gas? Nothing is happening when the bike is in Neutral no ticking sound, its a nice quiet engine.

But when I get into first gear, 2nd, 3rd and so forth and everytime I accelerate I hear a slight ticking sound. When I let of the throttle it disappears, when I accelerate again it comes back.

Nothing happends when I use engine braking to slow down.

Thanks for the replies and help!

Are you sure it' coming from the engine? Noise while revving in gear but not while revving in neutral makes me think its something related to the drive train. Like the front sprocket, or chain, or even a wheel.

Try to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. Top of the engine/bottom? Left/right? There are too many moving parts to diagnose anything based on what you have said.

Hey!

Well its hard to tell, I don't even know precisely myself and I have no one to diagnose it with..

Firstly:
I have a rear bike stand and put it in gear and then the chain was slapping around a little and I could hear a lot of the chain noise. Also could this sound appear if the rear wheel is misaligned? (I don't hear the same tick noise.. But I didnt want to up it into 3rd gear and increase the speed..)

I have the same amount of thread on both sides of the chain tighteners, and also the mark at the main wheel screw is at the same place too.

Secondly:
Here is a video of my front sprocket, idk if it is supposed to do that or not, but all the manuals say it should be attached with a C clip. Its a 15tooth front sprocket. Increase the volume as its bearly hearable! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/CKpf_5B_nG8

Thanks!

Also side note, my chain is probably not in the best condition as the O rings are starting to break down as far as I can tell. Small rubber material on the chain is breaking down and I can pull them of by hand. Probably a good time to invest in a new chain + sprockets?

Also could something like braking down O rings produce a ticking sound when accelerating?

Bluesmudge

It could be your chain causing the noise. Best to start there, since o-rings falling out means the chain is end-of-life so you need to replace the chain anyways.
The sprocket movement in your video looks normal, but its standard procedure to replace both sprockets when you replace the chain. You can get away with not replacing the rear sprocket since it doesn't wear out as fast.

Hucubama

Should I go for one of those rubber plated sprockets? Or just this normal one I have on right now?

Bluesmudge

I've never seen a rubber plated sprocket. Can you send a link to what you are talking about?

When in doubt, just go with the Suzuki OEM part. They don't cost much more than the aftermarket stuff and to me they seem like they are made of higher quality metal.

So basically I have narrowed it down quite a bit.

The sound is a ticking noise coming from the top of the engine, under the tank directly.

It sounds like a constant ticking sound, but only pulling the throttle. And it is hearable on all speeds / RPM. Also it's really loud when I get about 100/110kmph. It's just the same ticking sound.

When I let go of the throttle and use engine braking the sound disappeares completely, when I pull the throttle again it appears.

Also it doesn't happen when the bike is in neutral and for instance I'm waiting at a red light.

Sometimes it audible in neutral when reving to 4-5-6k rpm, but very very faint and super quiet and it also doesn't happen every time only like 1/100 red lights it's hearable in neutral.

Thanks

Does the ticking sound speed up and slow down as engine revs change?
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

Hucubama

Nope, it's the same constant speed, if you open an online metronom counter it's roughly 200bpm at all speeds / revs.
