'06 parts on a '90

Well, to keep her rolling for another 4+ years while I am in Florida, I will be doing a farkin' shart load of work on my Zukenstien Monster.



I have a friend here that bought an '06 and put his '99/'00 engine in it, which leaves me the rest of the other engine.  I want to take the '06 cylinder head and put it on top of my '90 bottom end with first oversized pistons and rings, and then swap my wiring harness, ignition system, carbs, and tach for those from an F model.  The way I see it, this will still be cheaper than buying and rebuilding an E model head and buying cams good enough to use.  Anyone out here see any problems with my idea or that can help me figure out what all I will need?  I would like to know exactly what parts will be different so that they are bought and here before I tear it down.  The is nothing else here for me to ride, so down time must be as short as possible.  I appreciate all help.

I say you are on the right track.  The heads and carbs will be easily changed.  The harness as well, but there are a few issues with the ignition and other things I can't remember.

Cool.  Thanks.  Yeah, you get the $5 when I get it.  I'll paypal it to ya.  The main thing I'm worried about is whether or not '90 wiring harness connectors fit newer ones.  I should probably ask if I will need another jetting also.  And may be a good idea to change the timing chain tensioner?

On my project I am doing the same with a '092 and modern controls from an '07.  Ironically though, I still have not attacked that part of the build. ;(  So at this point I am of no help. Sorry.  They are different though and I have both to look at and compare?!

Why don't you just swap the whole new motor into it, instead of mixing an old motor with a new motor.

The '06 bottom end is trashed.  A connecting rod nut loosened and the cap just fell off, then of course, the crank came around and slapped the connecting rod.
