My current company (Progressive) is charging me $1500/yr for my 2004 gs500f, so i decided id get a quote on a 05 ninja zx-6r...$6000/yr

wtf?

does this make any sense, i think thats absolutely absurd....

gazingwa

whoah mine was only like 560 for full on my 96, 219 for liability and was about the same for a bandit 600s(40 more)

what kind of record do you have?
82 GS850GL..... yeah i kinda sold out

'04gs500f

well im 19 have MSF course NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT and NEVER had a ticket, so wtf is with these quotes?

Cal Price

:o Whaaaaat ! The only way I can see how that might be justified was if the applicant was blind-deaf with a history of drug abuse and drunken driving, even by our standards that sounds a crazy price. :?

what i can't understand is that they insure my GS at a reasonable price... how can they possibly quadruple the price for a zx-6r....

are you under 26? are you fairly a new rider?

if so, yes. if you have nay kind of record, definitely yes. but try other insurance companies. if you also have a car insurance, go with the same company. it should drop to $2000ish.
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

'04gs500f

my original car insurance company (state farm) refused to insure my GS and wanted to charge $3k a year, i dont even see $3k a year on a zx-6r as being fair at all... considering me record...theres no way in hell

'04gs500f

if those are serious quotes i blame asshats like that 636 crash guy that was posted on our board, grrrrr people like that make me broke ive lost over $6000 to insurance companies since i first started driving and NEVER once used the company for any kind of repair or accident

Blame the squids. Statistically, the insurance company will be paying a total loss claim on that ZX6 within 3 months. That's how they justify the sport bike rates. If there was a regulatory system in this country to prevent dicknuts with no sense from buying 150 hp superbikes for their first two wheeler since the training wheels came off their bicycle, we wouldn't have so many accidents, so many claims, and such high premiums.

I'm 30 years old - pay $124 per year on my GS for liability. Got a quote on a R6 - $3,000. I asked the agent why, he replied with the statistic above. Doesn't matter that I've NEVER made a claim in 14 years of driving and 10 years of riding.

how do any of the idiots that actually start riding these kinda bikes afford it???????
you are 30 and get quoted $3k a year thats f*cking nuts!!

'04gs500f

oh no way.... this looks like a scam to discourage motorcyclists from insuring with Progressive, when i did the quote with all the same info as my current account without logging in it quoted $6k everytime, i logged in and selected a zx-6r to replace my gs and its now $4k, still frickin expensive but makinga  little more sense

They will give credit to almost anyone these days. You would be amazed how many morons finance a big sport bike or harley as a first bike. Some of the loans end up being 19% :o They get minimum insurance and then  wreck in 2 months. Then they spend the next   4 years paying off a non-existent bike.

i got a quote from AIG for full coverage at $1600 a year, only one catch,
i gotta pay off the bike within the year....
i dont think i can pay off 6100 in a year and cover insurance

DerekNC

Just for kicks I checked on full coverage for a new RC51. I'm 34 and haven't had any tickets or wrecks since I've been driving. The quote was for $8500.  :o But if I get only liability it will be around $150. So if I do get a bike in that class in the future liability will be all I could afford. It's all I've got on my '97 GS500 now as full coverage isn't reasonable considering how much I've got invested in the bike.

Try Geico CycleGard (1800-44-CYCLE).  I have them for my car insurance too and they are great to work with customer service-wise.  The premium is about the same as my previous insurer (Ball Ins./Progressive) but is better all-around and gives better incentives and future discounts.  I am 22, no tickets or accidents and for full coverage, required b/c of the loan through a bank, is about $710 for the year for my '99 GS500e.  But the cheapest insurer for me could be the most expensive for the next guy so check around.  The other thing is, any bike like yours that has the full fairing plastics is probably going to have a higher premium.  Check it out and let us know how it goes[/i]

Yikes, yeah don't feel bad about insurance, I go through American Family, when I got my 99' they charged me like $90 for a six month policy(granted it was along with my mom's insurance), this year when I go to renew it it jumped up to $160 for a six month policy. Of course this is just no-fault liabilty, so it keeps the price down.

However, my buddy was in you same position, he called his insurance agent and got a quick quote for a 2005 GSXR, well the insurance guy assumed no fault libilty, but my friend either forgot to mention or didn't tell them that he was going to finance it.  Well to his suprise the quote realized to about $8000, more money than he got the bike for.

I said that is crazy, hoped on Geico.com, and got a more realistic rate(under his mom) for $2000 a year, which isn't to bad. He is only 19, a clean record.

While I was there I checked my insurance rate also through them, and by myself I could get a $200/year policy.

Give them a shot, just make sure you tell the truth cuz they are only quotes so they can be the most accurate.

P.S. That damn GSXR he bought is sweeeeet....so much smoother than the clanky clank of the ol GS, and hella fast.

progressive  im 21 and have a 04 gs500f and pay 560 a year for full coverage. but it can be cuz i got a car with them as well. so maybe i got a discount but i dont use a dealer i do it myself online

I've found Geico's rates to be a little on the high side. I have my bike insurance with Progressive. No collision, comprehensive (only $30/year more), and higher than minimum coverage for the rest (liability, uninsured motorist etc.)

I'm 21, male, single, no tickets or accidents and I pay $270/year.

Geico wanted $500 for the exact same coverage.
