rubberpenguin16

18 YO from Ankeny (Des Moines area) Iowa.

i work as an Auto Technician in a two man shop in urbandale Iowa

got my first bike around Jan 2005 1972 Honda 350CB and did a full rebuild on it. the DAY i was done (had just finished the gloss coat over the Satin black paint) i was hit by a 2005 mustang that ran a red light. TOTALLED  :(

Just before it was totalled i got two bikes from my riding instructor (iowa requires you to take the class to get licensed under 18 ) one was a 1988 Honda CX500 (pyle) and a beat to crap 1991 GS500E... ive been working on the GS off and on ever since. it really has a grip on me and i cant place it... my only problem is.. finding parts that are worth the trouble. i need a few body parts still and a whole engine assembly (sat in a barn on its side for 8 years with the block and head removed... mouse piss city.)

I bought my yellow 99'GS500E in June 2004 as a gift to myself after a tour in Iraq. (Don't thank me- thank those left behind)

I was a squid who left the dealership asking the guy how to put her in first gear. :cookoo: BTW I was 120mi away from home. :o
I have since learned to respect motorcycles (two low speed unprotected :nono: wrecks later)

I am a backyard mechanic. I figure if I can pay some guy to do it, I could probably learn how to do it.

Besides the necessary dumbass Squid repair jobs. (Crankcase cover, headlight, tach and speedo, turnsignal..yada yada dumbass )
I have since-
- rebuilt my carbs (thank you GStwin.com)
- fenderoctomy (thank you GStwin.com)
- repainted my rusty exhaust (thank you GStwin.com)
- shortened those damn turnsignal stalks (thank you GStwin.com)
- removed those damn rearview mirrors (ugh!)
- pulled my bars back for more of a drag bike look

I still have some issues but this forum has solved most without me having to post anything.

I am looking foward to another great summer riding a good solid bike.
I've tried the cruisers, dirties and crotch rockets and none compare to the ride I get on my baby GS500.

It's like all in one.

Ridability - comfortable like cruiser
sportiness - responsive and sexy without the overkill and loss of comfort like a crotch rocket
durability - easy to fix, modify and mantain like a dirty

And to top it off the GS500 has been around for 14yrs+   Parts are cheap and easy to come by.

I just love this bike.

 My name is Don and I bought my 2005 Gs 500 in October and besides the constant rain of Washington , have had alot of fun on my bike though she seems small compared to the Gixxers my cousin rides and the R1 and such but hey I  will live a little longer eh on the bright side. I already had mine up to 110 and brought it down( too many Piggys around) going to try for faster when the coast is clear O0
