Hello all. Chris here from CT. 24 years old, just graduated from college. My dad got me into motorcycles...but his Harley was just too big...so after taking the training class I bought my GS500 in April and have been lovin it ever since! It's about 20 degrees now so I dont think I'll be ridin anymore this season...but it does give me time to work on her  ;)  Just installed a Jardine exhaust, K&N filter, getting the jets soon. I did the DIY timing advance, SV650 rear pegs and fenderectomy...man I love this bike! Oh yeah, this site is awesome...so much info its great! Keep up the good work!

Howdy guys,

I'm 21, from Canberra, Australia.

My Dad got himself a Triumph Rocket III a few months ago and after going for a few rides with him (as a pillion) I decided I needed a bike! I just passed the learners course and got my first bike, a 2004 GS500F.
I've never been on a bike before, so I'm taking it very slowly!

Name is Dean and located in Minnesota.

Been riding for 20+ years.

I bought a 1999 GS500 for track days in an attempt to keep my other bike <GSX-R1000> in one piece.

The battery was dead and I am told the carbs need to be cleaned so I have not started it yet.

This site is outstanding and has been a great help.

I have started the tear down and rebuild process. The articles and posts on the site along with a lot of alcoholic beverages have made this project actually kind of fun so far. Time will tell if that holds true.

Hola,

I'm an new gsero.  My hometown is Austin, TX but I've lived in Morelia, Mexico for 6 years now.  I'm an English teacher here and former brewer in Austin.  I've had a bunch of bikes over the years but am looking forward to the gs.  (It's still in Texas but I'll be bringing it down here in a few weeks.)  I'm 37 and married but no niƱos, yet.

This seems to be a very good forum so far!

Hasta luego,
Daron

Hello Everybody,  I am a 30 year old man from Houston, TX.  Been here most of my life except for during my short stay in the NAVY.  (I may divulge my real name later on when I figure there is no need to be so private anymore, lol.)  I enjoy this site and will probably post and read up here as long as I own my 2004 GS500F.  Which, with the payment schedule, will most likely be 2+ years.  Nope I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, reguardless what others say, and I enjoy the ride.  Just enough power, since I am not a power hungry young ones who believes speed is the greatest thing on earth.

Thank you everybody and chat with you all soon enough.

Hello, I'm a new rider. I live in Los Angeles. I picked up a black 89 gs500 three weeks ago. It's my first bike. I've been riding it on my block and a half commute to work. Before that I was riding a bicycle as I couldn't justify a $400 car payment for that little driving. I have my wife's car as an option, but the plan is to use the bike for most of my travels. It's also a great project to keep me busy on the weekends.

Greetings and enjoy the site.  Bunch of crusty GS veterans on here who have pratically disected their own GS's, of similar age to yours.  Many upon many a post giving advice and step by step trouble shooting.   Keep on reading and remember to search, search, search the threads.  Enjoy and ride safe!

Hello,

The GS is my first bike, so far I've only taken it out once around the block. I am signed up for the MSF course starting next week.  I got the bike running and idling pretty well. When I got it it was running on once cylinder, I had to clean out the carbs.  This is my first bike and I can say its nice to work on compared to most of the cars I've had.  It took me about 2 hours to take the carbds out twice, clean them out and put everything back together. The only remaining problem I see is a leaky fork, but I might take that to a shop.  I also ordered bigger jets since the bike has a K&N filter and running stock jets.

PS. I live in Honolulu.
