We have a done a couple of nice runs up through Hornsby, through Galston Gorge ( a bit scary for me the first time with all the hairpin bends) through Arcadia to Berowra Waters ferry and back through Hornsby. And also the same way except on to Wisemans Ferry after Galston Gorge and back on the Old Pacific Highway to The Pie In The Sky for lunch.  We are trying to remember all the places we used to go before when I was a pillion. We would like to do the run down through the Royal National Park to Stanwell Tops, but we need a whole day for that and its hard to find a free weekend. Our goal is to travel to the US in about 4 years time and ride down the west coast.  I have a lot of riding to do before then and a few longer trips locally to prepare.

Some great plans there! I'll look out for you on the road - not that many GSs out on weekends in Sydney  :-)

I think Dgyver built a 555 several years ago, you may want to contact him for some info.

Kyle here from Long Beach, CA.  I work for a turbocharger manufacturer and am getting ready to go back for grad school at Pepperdine.
I just picked up my 1990 GS500E three days ago and got a free 1985 GS550 with the purchase price because neither are currently running.  Yes, I'm apparently a glutton for punishment.
I hope to have the 500 running within a month and make it out to a group ride soon!
Nice to meet everyone! :)

Hi, all.
I'm Alan, a 41 year old systems analyst that used the gas crunch as an excuse for a midlife crisis.  Lurked on the board several days checking out the '500's before I bought the 06 500F I'd found. Only 2k miles, minor plastic scrapes, $3k. Goofy squiddie (I had to look that up-I thought everyone was talking about sailors, and I was prepared to be offended, since I was a bubblehead nuc in another life) decided that even though it was his first bike of any kind, he had to buy a bigger, faster one.  :cookoo:
I commute in a rural area 78 miles a day and needed something a lot better on gas.  Hadn't been on a bike in over ten years, but the little beast is very forgiving. (Though I see what everyone is talking about with the front springs!  That's gonna get upgraded pretty quick.)  The top end is a little noisy at low rpm, but after reading some more, turns out it's likely normal. I'll run a comp check on it this weekend and see if the valves might be a little loose.  Did my first trip to work and back today on it, and my shoulderblades are killing me! :) I figure it's my posture.
Just wanted to say "Howdy" and thanks for all the great info here, and I hope I might actually be able to contribute something useful at some point.

Well, I guess I could remember to add that I'm in Mountain View, Arkansas.
Thanks,
           Alan

Howdy,

Dan here, 26 Mech Eng from Milwaukee WI.  Just got a '01 GS599E with about 11k on it.  First bike, looking forward to continuing riding and making some mods on the bike (jets, forks, ignition advance).

This place has already been a great resource for some maintenance as well as suggested mods.

Hello,

I'm a process engineer in the vacuum coating business in Statesboro, GA.  I just purchased dgyver's 97.  I'm looking forward to riding instead of wrenching.  All the mods I would want are already done!
