Ton

Hi,

I'm Tony from Cincinnati Ohio, 30 year old ex race car mechanic turned engineer.  Just finished all the course work for a masters in mechanical engineering and looking for real job.  Bought an 04' GS500F two years ago.  It's been kicked over on three seperate occasions and hit by a car once while it was parked.  Dropped twice before I bought it, the bike looks so beat up but I love it!

Hey all

My name's Eamonn and I'm in Queens, NYC and a first time rider.

I just passed my Beginner Rider's Course (which was a load of fun actually!) and just tonight I took my bike out for its first spin.
And fell in love of course!

It's a 2001 GS500e which I bought for $2k with 6k miles.

Next up is an oil change and inspection.
Then I'm really rollin'

:)

I'm the colossus of clout, the messenger of mayhem and merchant of death... Ok no, really?

I'm just an average 25 year old, mechanically inclined college graduate (Appalachian State '08) who cant find a job because the economy sucks.  So what do I do? I spend my unemployment check on wrenching the '90 GS, beer, surfboards, one lucky woman, and sometimes food... but not necessarily in that order.

I'm from Salisbury, NC but am moving to Wrightsville Beach (NC) this weekend. Why? Because the beer is cheap, ladies are plentiful and, well, its the beach...  Oh, and maybe the job market's a little better there but I really don't know.

Thats who I am, if anything major changes I'll be sure to let you know!

Shaddow

Well guys I'm From Newcastle, Australia and lots of the more experienced riders I know kepted babbling that since I'd got a GS500 I should come check this site and forum out, so here I am. Hoping to learn anything I can from you more experienced enthusaists of the GS500s.

I've a '07 GS500F that I picked up as an insurance write off (I had a GN250 before it). I've done some minor repairs to it to fix the damage but still need to replace the right hand fairing. I've chucked on some LED flush mount front indicators, have some hand guards coming (I get sick of freezing cold finger tips from riding in freezing temps to get to work as its winter here) Its now got a bag rack and I'm soon to make some pannier mounts to fit some hard cases on it for some touring. Did a 1600km round trip one weekend to visit a mate and I was quite taken with the joy of riding long distance so I'll be setting it up more for comfort and touring more then sports riding. Must fit cruise control before I go next time. That was my one complaint.

I'm a car nut as well and have only just taken up motorbike riding. This is my second year of riding, so its all still new and interesting to me.

Scrumpy

Hi,
I'm Scrumpy (a nick name of course), born and raised in Adelaide, Australia but currently living in Whistler, Canada. I have only just started to ride and am quickly becoming addicted to it. I have just bought myself a 2002 GS500 and I'm loving it! My girlfriend and I have a plan to ride across Canada next summer so I'm trying to get as many miles under my belt as possible before then. I hope to make a few minor mods to the GS starting with an LED gauge conversion and adding a windshield.

I want to thank everyone that has posted here as it has been a great help already! I have been able to answer just about all the questions I have had. Keep up the great work.

Keep the shiny side up!
Cheers,
Scrumpy

Aedin

Hiya, my name is Aedin, im 22, and i live in australia.
i bought a 2004 GS500f because over here unless you have a unrestricted liscence you need a " LAM's" approved motorcycle. (im on my provisional lisence). at the time it was the fastest and i thought the best looking bike available.
my gs500 is yellow/black. i have just bought a integrated tail light and some flush mounts indicators for the front. i should get them next week.
ill post some pics up once i have installed them. cant wait. :-)

God I'm glad i can do it this year.. next year i will be 40 and buying it then would have been a midlife crisis kinda moment  ;) .

Whats Up!! My name is Andrew.

Have had my 96' GS500e for almost a year, bought the ol' beauty for 300$ and about 50$ in gas to drive to get it. got her from a suburb of Detroit. She needed tons of love tho. Been buying parts for about 7 to 8 months to piece this gem back together. It needed EVERYTHING for the top end, plus gaskets. A right front damper, the little black solid state ignition box, signal generator, coils, and a few other odds and ends. anywho FINALLY just got her purrin' last weekend. SO first thing I did was take out all of the safety switches  :icon_twisted:, popped off that old beam of a head light and strapped on this dope set of fog lamps, did a little wiring wrap and now im ridin like crazy. Still more serious mods to come..... btw bought the bike with 3,000 miles on the bottom end :thumb:

My 2009 GS500F is my second bike (first bike was a Kawasaki EX250R with about 13k miles) I bought my GS new with a whole 1 mile on it. Hi All

I'm from sunny Brisbane (Queensland, Australia).  I've been riding for years but been off the bike for the last 7 years (apparently you can't take infants on motorbikes).  I got my 2006 GS500 about 12 months ago with 11500kms on the clock, I've since doubled that.  I commute on it every day.  My last bike was a ZZR600 what seems like a life time ago.  I've been reading here for a little while as I've fumbled my way through servicing and maintaining the bike.  I'm a bit of a tinkerer so the GS500 is right up my alley.  I haven't moved from stock just yet but this weekend I have my K&N pods and jets coming, if I'm really lucky the IXIL exhaust should show up too.  I've just resprayed the manfolds to make them look nice and new before I fit the (very loud) slip on.  I look forward to seeing you all around.

Bucketerium

Hey everyone.
I'm a mechanical engineering graduate student from Northridge, CA. I've been dying to get a motorcycle for years, but just recently had a little bit of extra money to take the plunge. That and I was working for the past year on a project for school involving building a custom race car based on an R6 motor so my desire for a motorcycle grew to an unmanageable level.

I I ended up purchasing an '89 gs that needed a little love and am sold. I I loved it so much I also purchased another '89 that I'm in the process of tearing down and chopping up. I'll be putting up a thread about all that nonsense soon.

Thanks for all the great info contained here, guys!

Hello everyone,
I'm 18 and a photography apprentice from Sonoma, California. I've been riding dirt bikes for the last eleven years or so and just got my first street bike, a 1992 GS500E a couple weeks ago. I got my license on Tuesday and have been having a lot of fun. Got a new rear tire and once I get a battery that can hold a charge overnight I am hoping to take it on a longish trip in the fall.

Devon
