Ryan in Ohio. My first GS500E was a t bone. Totaled the dudes Fiero and I rode away. Today another 93 GS500E has landed in my lap and let the winter project begin. :woohoo:

BTW... if anybody is looking for some parts this thing came with a pile.

Well I finally got it out of the garage and rode it around the block today. Seemed a shame to let this perfectly good weather go to waste. I thought I should let everyone see how she looks before going into the winter transformation.

hello all. my name is sean. i am from nashville tn. i am still currently riding my 2004 gs500f that i purchased after taking my msf course in 2007. have been looking around on here on and off for a few years now.. thought i would be on my next bike by now, but financial problems have nixxed that for a while now. the bike came with the fender cut off already. bike had 5,000 miles on it when i got it and i put 10,000 miles on it in the first year and a half. currently at 22,000 miles now. sporting pirelli speed demon on the front and a stock bridgestone battleax bt45 on the rear since i feel they wear longer. put smaller blinker lights on both front and back, but use stalk type signals as the flush mount signals dont seem to be visible at all since the body work for the f is so skinny. i mean whats the point of signals if people in front and behind you cant see them, right? anyway, i have picked up a new chain and sprocket set and put them on myself earlier this summer. pain in a half to grind the stock chain off. i have a cortech tank bag as well as oxford hump back saddlebags i picked up a few winters ago for $75 on clearance. i also have put on ktm heated grips that i wired to the driving light up front. just recently had to resplice since the original connectors corroded over a few years.also, i have put on yellow rim tape to be seen a little better and picked up some gold anodized aluminum valve stem covers for the tires. i picked them up at cycle gear and they have been worth it since i put them on the bike the first month i had it. so, everything is good to go for a while hopefully. may decide to keep this bike when i finally do move up to my next dream bike, a triumph sprint st from 2007-2009. may try to get the wife riding in the future if she is confident enough. we will see if these pics post....

Whats up everyone.  I'm 39 and I'm not about to post a picture of myself.  Also, my wife of 20yrs doesn't let me date.  So, I'm not looking for a girlfriend.  Riding an 06 black and silver 500f.  From my on-line name, some of you might have figured out that I work for the Air Force and I'm a nuke maintenance guy for over 20 yrs.  Living in northern Colorado.  300+ days of sun and lots of roads to cruise. :icon_lol:  Looking to mod my bike with new exhaust and k+n lunch box pretty soon.

I'm generally a lurker, but I'm posting just for giggles.
I'm David. I'm currently 20, on my third year at the local CC. I'm a Mechanical Engineering major. I grew up with engines and wheeled objects, but no motorcycles (that ran...)
I've never ridden anything but a dirt bike on the street (other than MSF) until I picked this thing up from the PO two days ago. I got it for real cheap with 7k on it. She ran iffy when I first got her, but a quick carb sync and idle adjustment later and she's doing pretty good. Once the initial novelty wears off, I'll probably try to make her look a bit nicer, but that's for a future date.

Proud Original owner of this gem. As you see it in this picture from 2010 it is the same as the day I bought it in 1991 except rims have been painted red, front rotor has been painted black, Targa 1/4 fairing is off and new tires front and back.

Bought this fun little bike in NY and rode it home in a Noreaster and have loved it every since the minute I sat on it. Thanks again Superman55!

They both happily reside in my garage and keep each other company when I am not dawdling over them. And both have been from the East coast to the West coast and back.

Been meaning to come here for a while.  Hello all.

Got a GS 500 E as a commuter, it's a good all rounder.  Just come on here to get some info on upgrades and tech help.

See you on the forum

I'm a new guy on the forum.  I'm Paul, a 24 year old aerospace engineer working at Hawker Beechcraft in Wichita, KS.  I'm married with no kids, so I can enjoy having toys myself.  I used to be an auto mechanic and did a stint as a motorcycle mechanic in a Harley shop a long time ago (worked there long enough to know that I never would buy a harley).  I just bought a 1995 GS500E last week for a good price.  Here's a picture of her, my mechanical mistress.

I am also a rolling ICON billboard, since all of my gear is ICON.  So if you're in Kansas and you see a big dork riding around on an ocean blue bike with ICON gear, thats me; white and nerdy.

This is my first sport bike but not my first motorcycle; I used to ride a '68 Honda CT90 on the street a long time ago, so far I'm really enjoying this bike.  I didn't really know what motorcycle I wanted until I found this one and realized that standard/sport bikes are what I wanted to ride.  I got a good deal on this one and will use it for commuting and learning how to handle a sport bike properly before moving up to a larger machine.  Plus, its been a long enough time since I was riding on the street that I wanted something that was cheap, naked, and easy to ride for my re-entry into cycling after a 7 year hiatus; but its like riding a bike, you never forget.

madjak30

I don't know about that...I seem to forget some if I don't ride for a couple of weeks...need to remember cornering, braking, etc...I thought the same thing after not riding for...25yrs...I rode dirt bikes when I was a kid, and though riding the street bike would be easy...and it mostly is...but the slow stuff is the hard part, so watch yourself...I found that street bike tires don't perform well on gravel, tried to pull a 180 to turn around...turned into a 270 and a high side toss...oops...I was only going walking pace, so I wasn't hurt and neither was the bike...but I sure felt like an idiot...

Here's to hoping you have a better re-entry to the sport...

Later.

Oh yeah, excellent choice of bike... :thumb:

Did anybody mention that your stuff is spotless to the extreme?
Even the bottoms of the tires?

Over-the-top but very nice none-the-less.
And antisocial? Nah, your a GStwin regular!
Just an observation.
Very well then, carry on all.

Thanks madjak.  I am really having an easier time with re-entry than I thought I would.  I've been taking it easy the last week, trying to get used to being able to lean far into the turns, but been cautious since my rear tire is getting close to bald (gonna replace it next week).  I really attribute most of the ease to the bike.  IMO, its really well designed for its purpose and things that would normally be overwhelming are not so intimidating on the GS500.  Its a great machine in that it inspires the proper amount of confidence while still having more than enough power and handling capability to keep you frightened and respectful.  I'll be getting a little more frisky with a new rear tire and some clearer traffic.

First thing I did was drove down to an empty parking lot and practiced low speed maneuvers.  Much easier than I had imagined.  Have fun!
