Hello everyone, 20 year old from Illinois about a half hour east of St. Louis, Mo.

Ive, been into f-bodies for a while (camaro/firebird) and own a 1997 pontiac firebird formula ws6, for the people who know anything about f-bodies  8)

However ive been looking into getting a bike ever since a friend of mine got hit ninja last year and fell in love with the naked style of the duc while looking through an auto trader and then saw an almost new naked gs down the page that looked just as good and cost a fraction of the duc

now i just gotta sell my car and find a good gs thats not too far away  :thumb:

F-Bodies are fun cars...had a'78 Firebird Esprit, black Fisher body with t-tops, as my first car...learned a lot from that one...then I bought an '86 Camaro Berlinetta V6 5spd, that was lots of fun...my buddy and I bought a project car a couple of years ago (he bought it, but I towed it home and help him work on it)...it's a '68 Firebird and we have a Ram Air III 400ci engine going in with a TH200 being built to go behind it with 3.08 posi...should be a fun car...going to be Cadillac Pearl White with dark chrome accents...

Oops, sorry...got a little side tracked... :icon_mrgreen:...welcome to the forum...the GS500 naked is an awesome bike to start with...it should keep you happy for a year or two, maybe longer if you do some mods to the bike...I'm on year two with mine...

Later.

That '68 sounds like its gonna be a fun car, another reason i've been leaning towards a bike is the lt1 in my formy is a pita to work on, just this past weekend it wont start, started poking around checking electrical stuff as it cranks its just not firing, and the plug to my opti was cracked and the wires showing, whether or not thats the problem well see when my new opti harness gets here. But after this im done with the car, I love it to death but I've had terrible luck with so many little things breaking over the past 3 years its just driving me crazy.

1997 formula ws6, one of about 350 fully optioned ws6 formys built that year  :thumb: thats not even taking color into account.

now.. to de-mod it before i sell it or shop it around and see if someone wants to pay a little extra for the whale tail, hurst shifter and short stick, boxed lca's, ls1 honeycomb style tail lights, etc..

madjak30

Yup, still luv those things...nothing beats a clean black muscle car... :thumb:

My dream garage would hold a '68, '78, '88 and a '98...one of each gen and all T/A's (except for the '68, the T/A came out in '69)...but there would have to be room for my new luv...BIKES...they're cheaper, faster, more efficient and cooler...no one tells me to grow a mullet to go with the bike I'm on...although I do get bugged about riding a "girls bike"...but they just don't know... :flipoff:

Cool starts here...

And it just keeps getting better from there...

54 year old from Columbia SC. Will be buying a new 08 gs500f on Wednesday.
Sold a Ural with a sidecar in order to get the Suzuki. :cookoo:
If it doesn't fit...force it, if it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I am new to the forums and just wanted to say hello to everyone. I recently purchased a 2006 gs500f black/silver with 1,900 miles on it. I was considering turning it naked, but after thinking about it I'm pretty sure I'm going to be keeping the fairings on it. However, I would still like to put some shorter turn front/rear turn signals on it because the stock ones stick out a little too far for my liking. I was also thinking about adding bar end mirrors and taking off the front fairing long mirrors.

You probably made the sensible call, but those Urals are beautiful things.  Welcome to Gstwins.

Nedry

Greetings from naptown.

After quite a bit of research (on this site and others) I decided on a GS500 as my first bike in many many years... I rode a lot of dirt bikes in my youth, but never really did much ( read as nearly zero) street riding at all.  For some reason last year I got the itch to start riding again, but wanted to do so on the street for fun, and as a means to battle these outrageous gas prices.

Just picked up my bike, an '02, just about 3 days ago. Im taking my learners permit test and plating it up tomorrow. Unfortunately all the MSF courses in my area are booked solid until June!!! But I am signed up for it and look forward to the course. In the mean time I am just getting reacquainted with being on a bike again, and boy does it feel nice!!!  I Look forward to being a member here, learning, and contributing when I can!

Anyway, here it is.  Sorry, I haven't had a chance to clean it up yet, but that is this weekends project :)

I started looking at some 06 gsf to naked conversion pictures, and i must admit im thinking about doing the same myself. Does anyone here know how to mount the 2006 gs500f stock headlight to the forks? Is there a mounting bracket already there, or would I need to buy one? Looking for pictures with explanations, any help would be appreciated.  :thumb:

Welcome to the forum...not to worry about the technical skills, they come with experience...get yourself a manual for the bike, the GS500 is one of the easiest bikes to work on so it will be a great learning tool for you...
