Touring from El Paso to San Diego

OKAY  here goes:

i've read of some of you guys touring..awsome
i own nelons riggs saddles and tail bag.. im sure there is a pic on here from when WE rode to Myrtle Beach from Jacksonville, NC

im planning on going 13 to 17 August:

what tips can you all give me?   ITS GONNA BE HOTTER THAT 2 SQUIRRELS FU#kN IN A WOOL SOCK.

SO  what time of day is best to travel thru AZ  its the only real area that worries me.
oh cooking in my helmet worries me too

map quest says:
Total Estimated Time: 10 hours 28 minutes
Total Estimated Distance: 723.47 miles

how should i break it up! i have family in yuma so i want to @ the very least make it to them before i call it a night!
then its only 2 and a half or so to Sunny Southern California

Believe it or not a jacket can help you stay cool by blocking sunlight, a light textile jacket is good, in fact I'm kinda used to the heat and still wear my unvented leather jacket in summer heat and don't find it impossible just a bit unzipped and I'm good. Bare arms absorb sunlight and get you real hot and sunburned. One of your best bets is actually a longsleeve shirt drenched in water under your jacket, stop whenever it completely dries and the heat starts to get to you. It should last at least an hour or two of cool underneath a jacket. Carry plenty of water to drink and wet down the shirt every now and then.

A mesh jacket and one of those vests that hold water or just a wet cotton shirt will help you stay cool. I wouldn't wear anything that isn't vented but make sure you don't compromise too much on safety.
723 miles is two pretty long days, so be ready to have a sore butt. If you aren't used to a long time in the saddle, maybe look into something to make it more comfortable.

723 miles is a slightly extended one day trip for me. I like your saddlebags though I got the same exact ones. They sure do slow your bike down though.

It should be a great trip.  Just be prepared for a sore ass.  Make sure you rotate through different seating positions to try and help eliminate that.

Make sure you fill up every 110-150 miles and if you suspect there might be some distance between fill ups, get some gas anyway.

question:  what kind of clothes do i wear with it?
the reflective one is pretty slick since i have to wear one anyway BUT will it work outside the jacket? or am i readingt to far into it?


WHAT about glove i currently have some tourmaster summer riding gloves not armored but hevily padded and mesh everyplace else.

any glove alternatives out there?

what do you mean my slow the bike down? it ran fine really good actually and that was befor the KAT shock, yoshi can and rejet.

make sure you pack some rain gear too.  the SW has been getting quite a bit of rain lately
