Put a new front tire (Michelin Pilot Road 2) on, and put a new chain and sprockets. PO overtightened the hell out of the sprocket nuts and I rounded the corners off two of them taking them off, so it looks like I'm going to a dealership tomorrow on my lunch break and getting new ones.

Agreed. Definitely writing one right now.

Not new to the bike, but i got a new helmet today. Long story short, I now hate all my co-workers at my 2nd job  :flipoff:

On the bright side, the new helmet fits perfectly, and is super comfy. As a matter of fact, I just woke up from a 90 min nap only to find i was still wearing it. How's that for comfy?

Cosimo_Zaretti

Did you wake up from that nap in a ditch surrounded by bits of you bike?

mister

You bought a new helmet and that made you hate your coworkers? Now you've let that much out you'll need to spill the rest of the beans...

Washed it. Second time since I bought it 18 months ago. The kero and stuff are making me a bit light headed.

RE: Helmet

Thankfully there was no bike parts. Just my laptop open to this forum and my cat.
The helmet was always placed at the back of the office on top of a massive 6-7' high cabinet (which is bolted to the floor and wall, so it's not moving around, ever...).
For the past 5-6 weeks, it hasn't been a problem.
About 90% of the people in the office are less than 5'6" so it's easily out of reach and I figured nobody would be dumb enough to climb the cabinet and pull it off.
Apparently I was wrong!!!
As far as me hating my co-workers goes... When I went to put the old helmet on, the little plastic tabs that keep the front half from flipping up too far had snapped off. 3 things can do that... 1) a crash, 2) someone screwing around with it, 3) a drop.
So rather than risk riding around with a broken helmet, I decided to just replace it. I got a fantastic deal on the new one, so that was good(~50% off), but i'm mostly ticked that whoever was screwing around with it or dropped it didn't come find me and apologize. Oh well

I'll still keep the old one, maybe use it for paintball lol

Was just going to wait until I heard back from the garage when I take my bike there first thing tomorrow to get my problems checked out.
But I got bored this morning.

OEM header bolts and gaskets put on (old ones rattled out after a wipe and I had temp ones from Lowes in there til OEM came)
Bar end mirrors put on.
New used tach put on, tnx Burning1  :thumb:
new tach cable gaskets (was leaking at the motor, common problem, easy fix )

Forgot the new headlight bucket swap tho :(
Tools were already put away :(

Pulled the bike apart to find the annoying rattle that has been bugging me for the last year. While I had the tank off I did a valve check (all in spec) tightened and fiddled with bolts. Put it all back together and took it for a ride. I am stoked to say I have conquered the buzz!!! Ah it is so good to be rid of it. I have no idea what it was but it seems I stumbled across it and fixed it.  :woohoo:

Mighta been the tank rattling against the frame.
If all you took Off was the tank.

If it returns and it Coulda been the tank, check the rubber around and underneath the tank.

Mine was rattling and a lil loose in the front from my wipe because the rubber shoe in the front came off and went god knows where.
Bought a new one and put it on last week and tanks now quiet and secure :)

Maybe it could have been the tank but I have had that off before in my fruitless previous searches. I tightened a lot of semi loose bolts around the bike including an engine mount bolt which I think was the culprit and a really loose spark plug. The buzz only happened during the 4000-4500 rpm harmonics range which is where the GS usually cruises at city speeds. I got used to it after awhile but after riding my Ducati and hopping back on the GS it used to bug me again. Really happy I found it. Still amazes me how that bike magically undoes bolts of it's own accord. Came home from a ride not long back with my tail light hanging just by the wires near the rear wheel cause the bolts holding them in had undone themselves  :dunno_black:

New set of Sport Demons, continued polishing out scratches on new tail fairing sides and scratching my head over how to mount some tiny indicators.

Oh, and 5 hours of spirited mountain riding.

Incidentally... What is it that holds the seatlock key barrel into the plastics? I havent looked closely yet, but couldnt see any fasteners at a glance.
