Very sorry!!! I only had a little bit of time this morning... saw it and was like woahhhhh that's awesome! But then had to rush out the door without a reply... so here it is now!

Hahahahah cheers ShowBiz! Glad someone cares hahahahhaa

I got the mould separated yesterday too, couple of low spots to fill and some trimming/sanding required as well as another layer underneath for strength.

I'm leaving extra at the rear to stick some foam to so I can form the pillion area mould.

Hahahaha

More progress yesterday, stealing another fella's idea and using some 3mm brass rod to reduce the connectors needed for the fuse box.

I need two switched circuits and six always on, so they've been effectively joined together meaning only one connection required from the battery for the six always on and one from the ignition switch for the two switched circuits.

Hmmmmm... DDP FTW!!!!!  :woohoo:

Sanding fibreglass is painful... literally... No matter how careful you are you will inevitably slip and stick your fingers with some fibres that go through the gloves...

I don't use any gloves  :icon_eek:  But then again, I do most of my sanding with a wheel rather than by hand.  The skin on my arms felt a bit prickly last night when I was done but that's all gone today  :thumb:

Don't you wet the glass down first?

Not that I've ever seen. You're just supposed to cover up as much as possible and wear eye/face/lung protection. . . :dunno_black:
I try to use sanders whenever possible, because sanding by hand takes FOREVER. LOL  :icon_mrgreen:

No gloves?? You're keen!  :icon_mrgreen: What are you fibreglassing???

I haven't had any itching so far this time thankfully! But yes face and eye protection in particular is a must... don't want those fibres in your lungs or eyes that's for sure!

The shapes on this are a bit complex for the moment as I've got a few too many holes and bumps so it's hand sanding for the most part.

Once I get the low and high spots a bit more worked out I can fill and sand and move on to the orbital sander for a bit of a speedier finishing process.

I made a patch for the huge low spots last night to hopefully get that side spot on:

I confess, I am SO bad when it comes to PPE. If my safety glasses are within arms reach yeah I'll put them on (I had to learn the hard way by getting two little specks of fiberglass dug outta my eye like 6 years ago) but as far as masks and gloves go...  :icon_rolleyes:

Pete I just updated (today) the projects thread I started forever ago... I'm mainly using fiberglass on my car for patching and strength, not so much to make an actual object... but it's still really fun and I love working with it!!

Last time I did any fibreglassing, I didn't wear anything. I wear glasses already, so safety glasses are useless. I either don't see anything or I won't see anything later. And I doubt fibreglass is worse than the cigarettes I was plowing down at the time.

Also looks like the GS will be moving onto greener pastures. I've put an offer down on something a little bigger, and a lot more forgiving on my back and shoulders. Assuming it all goes to plan, there'll be pics incoming when it's all done...

peteGS

Haha right got ya ShowBiz... but that sounds way too painful!!!!

I started wearing reading glasses last year so I have them on anyway for this sort of work, but gloves I've always used.

I'll check out your projects thread momentarily  ;)

I believe I've screwed something up though, the resin was still quite wet last night... pretty sure I got the MEKP % right but maybe I laid the matting down too soon after the PVA release agent? Painful if I have to do it over yet again...

Malf... so come on... what is it???? And please don't fibreglass in the nude!!! I don't want to think about the places that would itch...

Pete, put it out in a sunny spot, resin gets funky sometimes as the weather cools a little

peteGS

It was beyond that... last night 48 hours later it hadn't done much if any curing at all... so I ripped it off and started again... 2% MEKP this time and made sure it was mixed well.

Take two...

Fibreglassing in the nude is the way it's supposed to be done! It's how the ancient masters did it...maybe.

And I don't wanna ruin the surprise. You'll get photos tomorrow

ShowBizWolf

There's no way I'd fiberglass in the nude unless it was the hot summer months... wait...  :icon_lol:
