GS450 starter clutch assembly in the GS500?

From what I know, the GS450 bottom end is very similar to the GS500. I am wondering if anyone knows if the starter clutch assembly/generator rotor from the 450 can be put in the 500?

I haven't finished taking it apart yet, but my GSF had something go wrong with the starter clutch. Looks like one of those three little starter clutch bolts sheared and sent little bits of metal everywhere. Luckily the magnets grabbed most of the metal, but there is a small piece of the epoxy missing. It was making a clack clack clunk sound when I tried to start it up.

I am hoping I can clean it up and swap out the entire starter clutch/generator. On eBay the parts are much more plentiful and cheaper for the 450. Unless I am using the wrong search terms.

I just looked on Partzilla, com, and the starter clutch assembly from the later GS450's (85-87) was used on the early GS500's (89-96). I find it really odd that there is a difference between the parts though..... so that difference might be something insignificant.

Exactly what parts are you looking to exchange? I just compared the "starter clutch assembly" when I searched.

I am looking to replace the starter clutch, the gear that drives it, and the generator rotor.

I am assuming that any starter clutch assembly from any year GS500 could be used in any other year, so that means the 85-87 GS450 parts should work too I think?

Edit: After a little more research, it looks like the starter clutch is the same between the GS450 and the GS500, but the generator rotor is not.
