so long as she has a sister we'll allow it

Alright I have no idea what day of the week June 21 is but lets go on that for a date... :thumb:  **feel free to suggest another day on a weekend**

Hah, well June 21st 2006 is a Wednesday     . However, the following weekend (Friday 23rd through Sunday 25th) might be a good idea. It is better than the weekend before the 21st since that is Father's Day, and it might be harder for some people to attend.  :dunno:

How does June 23rd-25th sound to everyone? We can do our "group ride" on Saturday sometime (for those that do not want to or can't stay and camp and stuff, but do want to meet up with everyone, etc). I'll probably camp friday and saturday night, leave sometime on sunday for home.

What do we think about June 23rd-25th?

Ok, now we gotta work on a campsite  :)

I was thinking about Hickory Run State Park. The URL:

http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/stateparks/parks/hickoryrun.aspx

I think the location is almost ideal for us, I think. It is around the Hazleton / poconos area. I played around with Mapquest and found..:

Apprxomiate Distances:
2 hours fron Trenton, NJ
2 hours from Binghamton, NY
1.5 hours from Williamsport, PA
2 hours from Philadelphia, PA
1 hour from Allentown, PA
2.5 hours from New York City
2.5 hours from Baltimore, MD

Pros:
+ Central location (as stated above)
+ Organized group tenting
+ It is a state park (read: cheap, large)
+ Close to Jim Thorpe, PA (http://www.jimthorpe.org)
+ The Boulder Field (national landmark)
+ Picnic area (we can get tyhe pavillion if we reserve it in advance)
+ Swimming (with a sand beach)
+ Snackbar and general store
+ Scenic pocono region (read: assumed scenic motorcycle rides)

Cons:
-  No Cabins (is this an issue for anyone or not? tents are ok with me)
-  There is a no"alcoholic beverages are prohibited" policy

I compared some others i could find, such as the Ricketts Glen State Park, but they were a bit further for the NJ and MD people. Hickory Run is the most centrrally located (for the GS members that have shown interest) state park.

What do we think? Anyone got input? Yay or nay? Know of a better campsite?

looks good. it's roughly 7 hours from here but i'm gonna try to make it.

do you have any planned group activities?

also, is anyone planning to drive as a support vehicle?

Good deal, Jetswing  :thumb:  Isn't natedawg in the same city as you? Talk him into coming up so you have a riding buddy on the trip! The only planned group activity I know if would be a group ride; it is always fun to ride with other GS's. I am hoping we can organize something else cool to do as well; the idea of going to an amusement park has been brought up before as well. If anyone has some ideas for stuff we could do, PLEASE post up! This is everyone's job :thumb:

As an alternative (just in case the no cabin and no alcohol thing are an issue), I also found another nearby campsite about 12 miles from Hickory Run. It is called Sandy Valley Campground.

The URL: http://www.sandvalley.com/

This is a privately owned campgrounds, but they have some extra stuff that might be cool:

+ I assume alcohol is permitted
+ Cabin sites *are* available
+ Game Room / Rec Hall
+ Swimming Pool
+ Volleyball net
+ FUll service store
+ Bathrooms / Showers
+ I assume alcohol is permitted

Prices also do not look bad, comparable to state park costs.  :thumb:

So what does everyone think? Hickory Run? Sandy Valley? Or Other?  :dunno:

I don't know anything about Jellystone..haha. There is one around here..but its like half an hour from me I think, northeast! None of you are going to want to come here for that... . is there another one? Is it better than the two mentioned? Like I said, I don't know that much about it, just what I researched and posted here.  :dunno:

i vote for both hickory run or sandvalley.  i've gone to hickory run many times and its fun! there are good hiking trails and even falls to visit.  we could ride to bolder feild too.  its like 5 acres of boulders left from a glacier years and years ago.  the no alcohol thing sucks but whatever..

What if we camped at Sandy Valley (where they allow alcohol, have cabins, game room) and then rode to Boulder Feild to check it out? best of both worlds?  :dunno:  They are like 12 miles from eachother..we could totally swing that. I definitely want to see this boulder field. I was reading about it and it looks kickass:

http://www.nps.gov/nero/nnl/hickoryrun.htm

Either of them are well over 100 miles from the Twins Bar and Grill in Harrisburg, thankfully.

w00t! So does everyone else agree on camping at Sandy Valley, and heading over to Hickory Run to check out the sights and what-not? Any objections or better ideas?

Otherwise, I can contact Sandy Valley since it is a private campground, and tell them we are planning a meet n' greet in their area and see if they are willing to accomodate us as a group. Maybe we could get a discount or a flat rate or something  :dunno: . I'll also make sure the grounds thsmeleves are "motorcycle friendly"  :thumb:

I am going to assume we'll have atleast 10 people.  :thumb:

I also found an interesting site for the group ride:

http://www.motorcycleroads.us/pa.html#pm

It features some suggested motorcycle rides (specifically in the area we'll be around). Someone else is going to have to do the route for the group ride and all that..I really don't know the area, but I thought I'd toss in that link as it looks really helpful  :thumb:
