Hi Christine here...new to the board and new to riding, I'm located in Green Country, for those you of not familiar with that...that's Tulsa OK.  I have been a passenger for about 7 years and decided it was time to ride by myself.  My husband owns a CBR1100XX and we ride together a lot. I recently bought a 92 GS and completed the MSF BRC and received my endorsement...so I'm legal, but still need practice!  I'm looking forward to gaining experience and confidence and being able to take my bike to the next meet my husband and I host in Eureka Springs AR (May 07).  Oh yeah...one more thing, if any have suggestions/modifications for those of us vertically challenged; I'm all ears.  At 5'1 and 105 lbs operating/riding has some additional challenges.

Look forward to getting to know the people here.

The opinions expressed above are mine and mine alone, if you don't like them then GFY!! (Good For You)

Hello everybody.
My name is Ralph, I live in Oklahoma just across the state line from Fort Smith Arkansas.

I have a hard time trying to decide whether to ride the nice curvy roads in SE Okla. or the nice curvy roads in NW Ar. :icon_mrgreen:

Hi everyone, my name is Jeremy and I live in London Ontario, Canada. I'm 21 years old and am currently taking business management at the University of Western Ontario. I am the proud owner of a 2001 GS500E, blue. I have not been riding as long as some of the people on this site, but I share their enthusiasm. I've got time on my hands and would enjoy finding someone to ride with in the SW ontario region, so message me if that applies ;). Oh yeah, I'm 6 feet, 180 lbs, and single.

Hey everyone

I'm 20, student at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio.  Currently in Germantown, Maryland working on a software co-op (internship).  Got my temps and waiting for my first bike to arrive.  Can't wait to get some miles under my belt and my actual motorcycle license.

I'm a 32 year old English teacher who lives on a small island west of Seattle.  I have two little boys who are almost as excited as I am about my new (to me) GS.  New to the world of riding, I just got my endorsement this summer and am looking forward to taking some trips around the scenic Northwest soon. :thumb:

Congradulations on the start of a new chapter in your journey through life.  I started my journey some five years ago, two years after I had to sell my much loved Honda Accord five-speed for a more family oriented minivan.  Getting into motorcycling after 45 years seems like many years wasted not riding, but I'm having a blast now.  Better late than never is my motto.

Welcome to this forum.  There is a lot to learn about this sport, but you've made the important first step.  The GS500 is a great bike to get into this sport.  Consider taking the MSF Basic RiderCourse (if you haven't yet) -- it's a great way to spend a weekend even if you're properly licensed.    :thumb:

Katia

I'm Katia, 18. I reside in Pleasnton, CA. I'm a student of College of San Mateo. My major is mechanical engineering.
I've been obsessed with bikes since I was very young. I've been riding for about a year now. I purchased a 96 GS500 last week thats been standing around for a while (the price was too good to resist). Now I'm taking it apart, cleaning, adjusting, replacing and upgrading parts as needed. I already have a million ideas of what I'm going to do with it  :icon_twisted:.
My first bike was a Kawi EX500... Most people switch up from their first bike, I switch down .
Anyhoo, I'm here for the tips and the advice.

How did you switch down. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Both are 500cc and i think the gs is a better bike. But thats just me. I have a 96 too. I love the color.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof, is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools....

Thanks to advances in automation, Nike shoes will be made by robots. Unfortunately, the robots will be made by children in Malaysia.

Well in terms of horsepower, the GS has about 10 less than the EX.. usually people go for more after their first bike. The GS does have a better frame, better suspension, better brakes etc so that makes up for the loss of HP.. at least in my mind. it feels a bit lighter to me too :) I regret nothing!

Welcome!

Hope you enjoy the GS!  It's great on all of these Bay Area roads!  Come down to San Jose and ride famous Hwy9 up to 'four corners' and Alice's Restaraunt!  (Let me know when you do!)  Mines Road is closer to where you are, and it's a great road, but be wary of Mt. Hamilton, there are some very steep switchbacks; definitely not newbie freindly.  Check out www.BayAreaRidersForum.com , too!
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

Hi guys and girls,

My name is Doug, I live just north of Toronto, Canada (King City). Just bought 1990 GS500 after riding Kawasaki 550 Zephyr, Kawasaki ZX6R and BMW F650GS. Been riding all my life (I am 36 now but started with Tomos moped when I was 10). Decided to get GS because my wife expressed interest in riding and wanted something small. I picked GS for its simplicity, I like to do all the wrenching myself.

However, I think I might have picked up a lemon with this bike, the drive shaft is almost stripped, I think from improper wheel alignment, so I'll have to pull the motor out and split the cases to replace it. The bike also wobbles and pulls to the right slightly, not too badly but it does, so I'm worried that something is bent, either the swingarm or the frame.

This is a great community and I really enjoy being part of it.

Cheers,

Doug.

Hi, I'm a '94 Honda CB1000 in Eugene, Or.  Just the other day my owner got me a new little sister!  She's a '97 GS500E in the darkest Blue I've ever seen!  But, I'm gonna need a little help getting her back to new.
