about the crankcase filter.  the guy i talked to at the dealer said i needed the outside and inside diameter to get one?  does anyone know it off hand for the 2001 because i dont have time to tear apart the bike right now to figure it out,but i would like to order the parts.  thanks.

You need the inside diameter of the vent hose from the top of the valve cover.
Cool.

done and done.  i ordered pipers suggested jets and the crankcase filter.  i took apart the bike even though i didnt want to and it all makes more sense now.  i put the pod filter on and it sounds pretty slick without rejetting and the crankcase filter.  you know the first place i will come to if i get in trouble.  maybe i missed it, but how many turns out should i go for the stock bike just with the new filter?  thanks all.

by pod filters are you talking about the drop in filter into the stock airbox? clamp on = clamps onto the carb peice right?

Lex.. what was your crankcase filter size? I want to go get that too.

piper.. i assume everything execpt the 20 pilots are non bleeed.. but slotted.

edit:

lex how much did you spend for your jets in total (and what jets did ya get).

The pilot jets are bleed type, and the other jets are small round slotted mains.  The pod filters are clamp on also but they are individual filters, one for each carb.  Stock exhaust with the filters and jets should be around 3 turns out on the mixture.

Hey Piper,

Do you know what altitude you're riding at? Just trying to cover all of the bases.

I ride regularly between 50 and 1200 ft above sea level.  I live at the base of the California coastal mountain range.  It is slightly rich at 1200 but not very bad at all.

i got a UNI crankcase vent filter (17.32 including tax) ...or something similarly called that.  i measured the inside diameter of the venting tube and it was 7/16 of an inch and the outside was 5/8 of an inch.  the guy said there wasnt exactly and 7/16 fitting one so he ordered the 1/2 inch one which will fit fine cause the hose is barely stretched as it is.  K&N makes one too and it is chromed for like 25 bucks and the UNI one not chromed is $15.  i figured since it is under the tank no need for the chrome one and got the UNI crankcase filter.  now then,  the jets i paid $36 dollars for them cause they had none at all in stock, i hope that the guy ordered the right ones for me.  the part numbers were:  09492-20004 for the Pilot jet #20 ($12.30); 09491-62006 for the midmain jet #65.2 ($11.36), and 09491-27007 for the 137.5 main jet($12.30).  they all should be ordered directly from suzuki from my understanding.  like i said they had to order them for me so i think i had to pay for 4 jets in a couple of the packs because that is how they ship.  so i might have extra jets if anyone is interested.  i took pipers advice on the jets i am here in ohio we have wider temperatures ranges so i'll figure out soon enough whether or not it was the best idea to get these jets...if not i am screw 36 bucks.[/quote]

If they don't work, I'll buy them.  I have a friend with a 2002 in the Bay Area.

Quote from: Piper5177The crank case filter is around $10.... if you are getting a slip on exhaust or drilling, order a 137.5 main jet, if it's a full exhaust get a 147.5.  Also with a slip-on or drilled exhaust the mid should be a 62.5 not 67.5

Full exhaust and clamp on or pod filters:
1/8" shimmed needle under the e-clip
#20 bleed type pilot
#67.5 mid-main small round slotted Mikuni
#147.5 main small round slotted Mikuni

clamp-on or pod filters only:
1/16" shimmed needle under the e-clip
#20 bleed type pilot
#62.5 mid-main
#137.5 main

Just checking.. is the Mid and Main jet bleed type? I found the 137.5 and the 20 too. Not the 62.5.

The thing is this, is the 20 round or hex? I sorta remember one of my jets being hex when i opened the carbs.

The clamp on filter will have to wait, because I have to wait for the "funds" to show up on hand (or have enough cash on hand to buy it locally). Im still waiting to encash my financial aid check.. so until i get some stuff cleared i cant do jack.

So the question is if I find the jets tommorow.. should I just go ahead and swap them out with teh stock suzuki drop in airfilter (new about 1000 miles or maybe more) in there.

Will it run too rich? or can i change the mixture screws to 2 turns or something to equalize for lesser air going in?

BTW: the crank case filter is 15 bucks for me (i think its in stock at the local place saw a whole bunch of sizes UNI brand). The Jets are between 2.50 to 4 bucks each.

last time i checked you can get those crankcase breather filters from any auto parts store for about 5 bucks :o . Your not buying them from a motorcycle shop are you? They are identical.

Also, jetting that is intended for a clamp on filter is not good for a stock aspirated motor. Dont do one or the other. It will run extremely rich.

There is only one style Mikuni bleed type pilos #20 so you can't get the wrong one.  The 62.5 is the same type main jet as the 137.5 but it is probably going to have to be ordered.

Quote from: Piper5177Pablo, your bike sounds like a prime cantidate.... 120 indicated stock.  That's where mine was, a little jetting and exhaust would probably give you the same results.

I've come across a used Yosh pipe and K&N pod filter for $200. Now I have to get the jets n'stuff and we'll see what mine will do! That and I've located a gsxr rear wheel...woo-friggin-hoo do I have some winter projects lined up!
