Dual headlights and Buell flyscreen installed.

I wanted to put dual lights on my bike for awhile and read here that the XB9S flyscreen could be fit on so i did it.  I research the best way to do the headlight and found two ways. The anti method which has the top mounted piece of the bracket coming from the triple bolts underneath (They are the ones with the cotter pins in them for safety) and switching 90* to bolt up to the headlight. The other method is this raylarrabee method. We decided to use the anti method even though there were no pictures. We also made a bottom bracket to attach to the bottom mounting hole of the buell headlight. You might not need this but my signals were attached to the ears attached to the fork and i did not want to remove and relocate the signals and one of the black ears are not secure (the right ear is not secure). So to secure them i made a bracket shaped like this  |_______| and made a middle piece to the bottom mounting hole.

I followed these wiring instructions
As for the wiring, it's simple.

1) Buy a box of male and female connectors...some kind that will resist corrosion.

2) Cut the h4 connector off your bike's existing wiring harness(that's the three-prong female connector that plugs into the back of the headlight bulb). You will see two yellow wires, two blacks, and one white.

3) Attach the female connectors to these wires. Both yellow wires squeeze into one female. Do the same with the blacks. The white gets it's own.

NOTE: for any wires that come off the harness, use female connectors. That keeps any live wires unexposed and if they touch it wont matter, if you used males here you would run the risk of blowing fuses.

On your new headlight there are four wires. A black, a white, a yellow, and a white wire with an orange stripe. Don't worry about the white/orange. It powers a parking light that sits between the bulbs. I thought it would partially illuminate the hi side while the lo bulb was on but I tried and it's not even noticable. In other words, not worth your time.

4) Attach male ends to the black, white, and yellow.

5) Connect wires, but reverse whites and yellows. Otherwise the Hi/Lo switch will be reversed.

The great way about how i did it was you can adjust the angle of your lights and when you are satisfied. Make bottom piece to come out and mount the final hole at the bottom.
The lights did not look bad at all even without the fly screen and they function SOOOOO much better it is unbelievable.

Basically for the screen i made brackets coming from the top of my headlight bracket and bent them to the top mounting hole. We had a lot of trouble with this. Our advice is work with a longest piece of steel you can (we used about a foot and a half and THEN cut off the excess) Our first bracket we were working with like 6-7 inches of steel and it took us over an hour to make the first but the second took us about 30 minutes. This was the hardest part of all the installation because of the contour of the screen. I would assume if we used a torch it may have been easier but we did all of the bracket bending with a crescent wrench/hammer/vice grips and a table mounted vice. Here are some pictures throughout the process. Ask any questions or comments!

Looks great. Sorry my pics are no more. I lost the server, and somehow the pics as well. I connected them on the bottom just as you did. It all ends up fitting pretty conveniently doesn't it. Once again, looks great. If I put my Hi/Low beam in the middle, both light up and I get hi and low on at once. It serves no purpose, but I was sick of hearing, "Hey man, one of your lights is out."  :mad: It gets annoying.

Anyway... good work.

What do you mean in the middle? I would like the both on look by means of modifying it to appear that way or actually getting them both on

You kind of have to use a very light touch and set the hi/lo switch in the middle and you will get both lights.

I have seen mods to have them both on w/ high and one w/ low but I never tried the wiring setup for that

Yeah, exactly what Scott said. Put the switch in the middle to get both. I never worried about wiring it differently. I;m no electrician, so I am happy with it how it is.

This is the left side top bracket. Note the twist direction, it fits much better this way since it is out of the speedo cables way.

This is the bottom bracket. It allows for adjustment if needed to the angle of the lights.

Sorry to resurrect, but it seems recent enough!

Anti, Yuppoo, and Scott,
did you all install the 4" headlights? I've been scrounging the site for tips on installing the 5-3/4" ones. Are there issues with this choice? I think I read something about there not being enough clearance between the forks so the lamps wind up pointing inwards. Is this true? Would everything else be the same as the process for the smaller ones? Any recommendations for manufacturers?

I appreciate any help you can offer!
