I shoulda posted a LONG time ago...
Oh well,
Im Byron Rich (hence the username), 19, from Calgary Alberta, but living in Ottawa On for school. Im studying mechanical engineering.
Ottawa is good, but Calgary is better!
Damn I love my 2002 GS, but after only a year of ownership, I think it may be time for the speed triple I have been eyeing for a while. A ducatti monster is really tempting me as of late. We will see what spring has in store...
What a fantastic forum. A plethora of GS knowledge. Id still be riding a stock GS if I hadnt stumbled apon this sight, and that would not be so fun.

MstrsLilBrat

Hello to all!! I am Rika , but my biker friends call me as Lil Brat.
I am Japanese, and now live in California for 6 years. I have ridden a motorcycle for one year and 6 months. My first bike was a cruiser, Suzuki Savage 650. This was the ONLY bike I did not need to lower the seat, and could reach the ground! Why did I use a past tense?? Yea... I had an hit-n-run accident by a double trailer semi on the freeway on 09-14-03. Yep, my bike was total. My bike went under the semi, and semi crashed my bike! Fortunately, my bike pushed me away from the semi. So, here I am, I am still alive!! Wow wow! I had a pretty bad injury. 4 broken foot on my right leg, 15 stitches on left calf, 3 stitches on left knee, a small road rash on right knee, a huge road rash on left leg!! *I still wear my mini skirt!!*  ;) I am a temporary disable, so I am having off from work, but I must go back to work in Nov.!! Ugh...

Highly recommend to WEAR PROPER GEAR!! I had a full helmet which saved my pretty (?) face. (I hit my face first when I fell down.)
My leather jacket avoided a major injury for my upper body. (I just had several bruises on my belly and arm.) Unfortunately, I was wearing cute fashion jeans, and caused all my injuries on my legs.

Now, I wanna get a sportbike! I sat down pretty much all bikes. Of course, all bikes were tal for me. I am 4'11, and yes, I am tiny.  :P
GS500 caught my eyes... will try to get one soon!!

Ride safe!!

Hi Folks,

My name is Wilbert, I'm from Holland> I got my driverslicence for 6 months now and i've done 12500km since on my '92 GS.
I've changed the forksprings, its restricted to 25kw :( , i've placed a streetfighter fairing, H&W exaust welded on, steelbraided hoseline, and some other small changes. The next mod on the agenda is installing a Katana shock for more ground clearance.

MZZL,
Willie

I'm 35, have loved motorcyles since I was a little girl and always wanted to ride them. I suddenly "realized" (eureka!) last year that I didn't have to be a passenger anymore and ask for rides...I could go out there and get my own.

I am a biologist, scientific illustrator, graphic designer and outdoorsy gal...
am working on a career as a children's book illustrator/writer.

Beside the GS500, I also own a Kawasaki KLR250, which I blew up using the well-known method of oil starvation...and am going to use it to learn how to work on bikes because feel I must resurrect it and make it go again to make the universe happy again...

hi I am a 23 yr old male living in Fort Huachuca Arizona. I don't own a gs yet but am going to buy the new model when it hits the market. This will be my first streetbike although i have owned several dirt bikes growing up. This seems like a great site and ive learned alot about my future bike. Can't wait for it to come out.

Yay! Great! And welcome to the site!

Hey this is my first post on the list. I'm a 28 year old CAD draftsman and network Admin for a structural engineering firm in Southern California. My girlfriend has been riding for 3 years and she finally talked me in to getting a bike. I purchased my 1997 GS500E three weeks ago. It has 84k miles and looks like it's had a rough life. It was a courier's bike before the previous owner. The motor was apparently rebuilt 600 miles ago, and I actually believe that to be true. It doesn't smoke at all and still pulls very strong. The previous owner was having a problem with stalling that I think I've narrowed down to a cloged fuel filter screen. I've been trying to catch up on all the great topics and I think I'm finally up to speed. There is some really great advice on this list. I'm looking forward to learning more about this great little bike.

HEY! I saw you riding around venice one afternoon, heading east on Rose ave.  I didnt think it was anyone on this board as I havent seen anyone with a black frame! Looks good in photos AND in person (from across the street).

Check out JamesG's post parting out a race bike-he's got gsxr forks for sale. OR check with Jared for some spare forks he may still have. Keep an eye out for listings of SoCAl rides...you missed one in the malibu canyons last saturday...there were 6 of us out.

Also-I'm an architect...what structural engineering firm do you work for. My office is on Lincoln, across the street from the chicken n' Bull english pub.

Hi

I'm a 26 year old IT guy, living in Sydney, Australia.

I bought my 2003 GS500 last week, it's my first bike, I'm only just learning how to ride :)
Don't Panic.

Nathan Carey from Brisbane, Australia.

Recently picked up a black '91 GS after looking at GS's for a while. It's been dropped, and old, so not nearly as pretty as all the ones here, and still waiting for a couple of repairs to be done (some things left over from the dropping) before I get it back full-time. Like the guy from Sydney, it's my first bike (lucky guys in New South Wales get a GS as a learner bike!) but I'll have my full license soon. I'm looking forward to riding with some friends, and enjoying the freedom.

One of the reasons I got a GS was simply because of the large amount of info on this site, with all the modifications etc. Fantastic community that I'm glad to be in the company of. Thanks guys. I'll definitely be checking out progressive springs and a rear shock replacement in the near future after I'm used to the stocker...  ;)

JLKasper

I'm a 47 year old male, from Evansville in Southwest Indiana.  I used to not consider myself as middle-aged, but these days I'm not so sure.  My recent purchase of a '96 GS (Antares Red)  could be explained by a shrink as an attempt to recapture my youth.  There's an element of truth in that, but I've been on two-wheelers in one form or another all my life, and this is merely an extension.

After a six year hiatus on motorcycles (I rode bicycles instead), I bought an '82 Honda CM250 just to see if I still wanted to invest my time and money in them.  4000 miles later, I passed the test and the search was on.  My preference would be for a new Triumph Bonneville, but my financial status tells me that is a few years off.  The GS, with its simplicity, reliability, and plenty of real world performance suits the bill.

The highlight of the bikes I've owned would be my 1978 GS400 that was my only new bike purchase.  It had an overly soft fork and was extremely cold natured (some things never change), but was plenty of fun nonetheless.  It was replaced by "bigger and better" and regretfully went to seed.

Other bikes I've owned, from first to last:

1975 Yamaha DT175:  A good starter bike   :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:
1978 Suzuki GS400C:  First "real" motorcycle   :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:
1981 Kawasaki KZ550A:  with Vetter Quicksilver fairing.  A good sports-tourer.   :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:
197X Triumph 500:  A $100 basket case, sold in a different basket for $50.  I  wish I had it back, too.  :dunno:
1983 Honda GL650 Interstate:  A real pig, but the perfect commuter   :thumb:  :thumb:
1984 Yamaha XT250:  fun, but a Buddha Loves You to start.  No more thumpers for me!   :thumb:  :thumb:
1971 Honda SL175:  Bought at rummage sale w/o title; ran like crap, didn't want to mess with the tiny carbs; sold at a rummage sale.    :thumb:
1991 Suzuki VX800: Ugly and heavy but torquey and comfortable.  Suffered a low speed crash when sideswiped by a kid on a f%$*ing scooter.  No more motorcycles for me--  or so I thought...   :thumb:
1982 Honda CM250C:  Rebelesque, but fun because it has to be thrashed to keep up with traffic.  Horrible handling.  Time to move on!   :thumb:  :thumb:
1996 Suzuki GS500E:  Beautiful Red, with quarter "cafe" fairing, F! can.  Progressive springs, #40 pilot jets, and #4 washers await installation after finals this semester.   :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb: ???

Well, I've pissed away a half hour composing this.  Let me close by saying I think this forum is a great to prospective and current GS owners.  A donation will follow and keep up the great work!
