I actually never did the crazy helmet head light....further mods to the back seat to riding.  Everything is still in my garage so maybe I'll make that this spring.  Presently I have been using the stock gs headlight with the buell cyclone wind screen.  So list of this springs mods are....

Bandit 400 rear wheel swap
Sv650 rear shock
Custom headlight
Aluminum footpegs
Painting the tank and front fender (color to be determined)

we are planning the "New York Area Meeting" in May - check this post: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=37505.0
and since you said you live in NY maybe you would like to come?
Nothing is set up yet, but there are few people who are seriously interested, so hepefully it will work out!

Hey thanks...I responded to the post.  I would be down for a little road trip down state.... I am present located in Rochester NY.

The project looks great, I've loved checking out the progress. I'm curious why you went with an SV650 shock as opposed to a Katana shock with rebound adjustability?

Keep the updates comin!

Ive had 4 shocks in my bike,

Stock 1996 Gs... Rubbish
Sv 650 , Better , but not excellent
Katana 600, Nicer , Pleased with that one
Hagon: The best!, Adjustable Preload and Adjustable Damping , and its a Shocking Red Colour

Honestly didn't put much thought into the shock, plus I got the sv shock off ebay for $15 shipped....so whatever.  I can live with the stock gs shock so I suppose it can't get any worse.  Though I am pretty sure the stock shock is pretty shot....  I still haven't 100% decided on a color but I have narrowed it down to metallic blue, deep metallic red...or I may just go with the stock purple just have it repainted..... The purple looks good now, it would look better with out the pink graphic...plus everyone seems to hate on the purple....Its always better to be different.

I decided not to go with the with a different swingarm for now, for the sake of potential power robbing issues with the wider back tire.  <Sorry Jim>  If your reading I should have contacted you....but like I said earlier...school has been killing my time hardcore and $$$$ also.  But, perhaps when I get another bike, I will go crazy on the gs.  So it can be my show bike....for bike runs such events like that.

gstwizzle

I would also like to do a front end swap and some...point....Though I do like the the look of the single larger front disc....Perhaps a buells s1 lightning front fork would be dope.... and it would continue on with the buellish theme....

o yeah....?  how does that work overall performance wise?  Like a world of difference?

Jay_wolf

i think the gs has wither 320mm dics, or 310 mm ,
the Katana's are 10 m smalller .  the gs caliper is a single piston ,the Katanas are dual pistons , and x 2  its 4 pistons over 1 ,

also the Harder progressives i got in the katana , its nice , World of diff!

Kat forks w/ dual rotors & dual 4-piston calipers + braided lines + EBC HH pads = 1 finger braking.
Common sense in not very common.

Can you put any forks on a gs?  Is it all a matter of putting the right spacers in the front end?   For example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-04-SUZUKI-GSXR-1000-750-600-FRONT-FORKS-TUBES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35592QQihZ016QQitemZ260213692721QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

No. The stems may be larger in diameter, which aluminum stems generally are larger than steel. You may be able to install new bearings so it will fit. The next option is turning down the aluminum stem or swapping with the steel GS stem. When I did my GSXR f/e install, I had the aluminum stem turned to fit. I generally swap stems with Kat f/e installs.
