Hey, i just hit a financial slump and since i dont have a job right now and am going to school, i may not be able to get out of it until summer. i may be forced to sell the bike (just got it a couple months ago).

I've done some stuff to it thinking that i would be keeping it for a long time but heres the list:

reupholstered the seat
relocate wiring under tank
changed spark plugs
new front turn signal
new D.I.D o-ring chain
new front sprocket
new rear sprocket
.95 Sonic Springs
cut the rear frame
Cut off rear pegs
custom 1/2" thick fork brace powdercoated blue
relocated license plate
create bracket for seat lock
new fuel lines + inline filter
K&N filter
Yosh RS-3 slipon
Rejet Carbs 40 pilot, 150 main, 1 washer, 3 turns of the mixture screw (buddha's golden touch)
Katana 750 rear shock with remote resevoir
zx636 integrated LED tail light
electronic blinker relay (solves LED blink problems)
Euro gs500e clipons
20ft paint job with PJ1 fast black epoxy spray paint. (re: i'm cheap)
Charged battery
Bar end mirrors
Katana clutch perch/lever
aftermarket footpegs

how much do you think i could get for her? Please serious thoughts because this also affects my finances for school. Reason i got the bike was to commute to and from school (60 miles round trip) when it gets warmer. And loans are hard to get when unemployed

Nice looking bike... IMO yu may be better off keeping it yourself.  Don't know how much you need, but in these times and with the GS "econo" is the mindset, no matter what custom stuff you did to it.  It's still just a GS. O0

You won't make back what it is worth to you. Try to see if you can keep it, find something else you can sell (soul?). You seem pretty handy with your camera, you could try being a budget wedding photographer. Put an add on craigslist. Can't find a job or no time to work? Either way, sorry times are hard. In the end do what you have to.

chargercalvin

if u do sell it try it here first. GS people will apreciate all the work you have put into the bike.. it is an older bike but when you price it concider all of the time and money you have in it. its a damn nice bike dont sell it to cheap

Its the wrong time of year to sell a bike , trust me , mines been on craigslist for 5 weeks now. All low offers if any. Wait till the cold goes bye bye and it gets sunny and hot out then sell for more - Mines a 96 with a bunch of new parts and still not worth much cause of the time of the year. This is my ad , its on craigslist http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/939882259.html   My point is ... hold out for a few more months - then sell.

Also : Your bike looks nice , id say sell it for $2,000 to $2,500 in a few months, now , if your lucky , you'll get $700 - $900 for it

Look, you should keep it.  It's nice.  Go get a job waiting tables, and all the hot waitresses will be lusting after you, studly motorbike boy.  Take it from me, you don't want to lose your motorcycle, of ALL things, when finances are tight.   You can put $4.00 of gas in it when you are feeling blue and go for a ride and feel like $20 gazillion bucks.  Trust me just bite the bullet and keep it.
Attack but have a back up plan

psyber_0ptix

thanks guys... it warmed up today and i started it up for a bit and went around town. Man i would miss it if i sold it so taking all your advice, i'll keep it and find some work during the holiday break (have a month off between semesters)

in any case, i have a couple parts that i ended up not using. Stock or otherwise, so i'll post that up sometime to recoup funds.

keep watch for belly pan/chin fairing in the classifieds soon  (black)  ;)

i paid 800 buck for a 89 that was not as nice as this one. but the year will work against you.  1500 is the best i think you will get for it.

paint the exhaust and kickstand. maybe a few more $$ on sale price for a little bit of work.  my eyes for some reason go straight to that rust...
tank looks kind of out of place also...

seems like a reasonable price to set; still negotiable depending on the financial need.

...beggers cant be choosers so if it comes to it, i may cut my losses and sell it for what i can

this was the plan, but it just got so cold out i wasnt sure how the paint would set. i will definately touch up the paint int he spring.

I'm wondering if i can do a rollon for the frame. Then spray down the headers and other bits.

for whatevre reason, the tank always seems to overhang the frame a bit. than and the rubber underneath keeps getting messed up. I may have to apply some new adhesive for it to stay properly without twisting off

this bike looks very similar to the bike i sold a couple months ago. i was forced to sell mine due to license issues and needed the cash. i was forced to give it away fro 1200 and that was in the fall. i would def hold onto it in the spring and put it on craigslist, it should do well. i sold mine for $1200 in the fall, but i bought it for $2200 in the spring and i may have paid a bit too much for it. good luck with everything though! heres a few pics of what mine looked like...

Don't sell it.  I'm not one of those guys who thinks selling the bike is a last resort, but selling it right now is retarded. You won't get anything for it.  The only interest you'll get right now if from people who will nickel and dime it down to you paying them to haul it off.

Call mommy and daddy for a loan, then sell the bike in the spring when you can at least get it's value out of someone.
