http://katriders.com/vb/showthread.php?t=94734&page=4  look like an r6 shock fits the pre kat. They just had to reduce the top clevis holes from  12mm down to 10 mm. Hmmm.......

I find it amusing that they're wanting to replace their, "mushy" Kat shocks with something better...

I guess we really are at the bottom of the food chain...

Their bike weighs more, so what is mushy to them is totally fine for a GS...

that being said; the r6 shock would likely be too stuff for a gs?

Just cos it fits a kat dont mean it will fit a GS because a kat shock fits a GS ...
Piggy back and larger shock diameter will hit the swingarm hole and the battery box and air box.
In a way they fit shocks with a good bit of room around them stock. We eat into that room when we fit a larger shock. There is only so much eating you can do before you start to hit things you cannot eat.
Cool.

You could always shim the bat box. I think if someone like you had it in your possesion you could "persuade" it  :technical:  :icon_lol:

Battery box cant be shimmed, push it up and it will hit the seat, back and it will need the febder cut and then it will hit the wheel and forward/down is well ... the opposite of what you want to be.

If you put a larger dia shock (much larger than the Kat one - I think the kat shock is ~1/2 inch larger than GS shock at the collar) the swingarm hole has to be ground ... a lot.

The real reason a kat shock fits like a glove on a GS ... if you look @ that shock the shock actually tapers as it gets close to that collar. The spring has a larger coil dia on top and smaller coil dia on the bottom. That in effect makes it the ideal shock to fit in there without fuss. That coupled with the deep clevise and the fact that its only a shade longer when unloaded make it all fit beautifully.

The 90-95 GSXR springs are straight as are almost all other springs. B6/12, RF, all of them. Again a kat shock isn't the ferrari of shocks, but its an excellent compromise for fit and performance as well as cost and the ease of modifications as well as availability. Never is it unavailable off fleabay/buddha ... and it makes for a excellent swapper. Well yea a lot of others fit, but nothing as easily and nothing that fits in there is as good as a general purpose shock as kat6/7.

Very true Fred, although i wasn't trying to start a debate.  (The R6 shock is more adjustable...  For her pleasure?)

I was just poking fun at myself for my chosen place in the hierarchy of the motorcycle world...

Of which i'm fully satisfied with  :thumb:
