Armored Riding Pants ?

Let me clarify: I ride my bike everyday. I wear armored Jacket and Helmet with Gloves. I am looking for something that I can wear everyday to work just like a jacket. Easy to put on and easy to take off. I was considering outer/inner armor for legs and have since doing some research decided against that option. Don't want to mortgage the house either!

I have seen many brands out there from the usual suspects. What I am asking is if you have a set; what do you like about them and what do you hate about them.

P.S. I have FieldShear rain gear so that is not an issue.

I too am very curious of some recommendations I am in the exact same boat. I did checkout that rain gear though and they had a pretty sweet looking "thunder" version. I still need to get some rain gear, normally I just hop in the truck if its raining. What have you checked out so far, as far as the inner/outer armor and why did you decide against it?

I don't know if it is an option for you because it's not a simple on/off but I wear a Bohn body armor pants liner under Sliders kevlar lined jeans and take the bohn armor off once I get to work. My co-workers refer to them as my "armored pantyhose"   I've gotten so used to them that I don't mind wearing them all the time.  I did end up buying 2 sizes smaller than what their size chart recommended because the knee armor kept falling down when I'd walk around a lot (grocery shopping and the like).  Draggin Jeans company has out a Kevlar pants liner with knee armor now that will work under any pants.  I don't know anyone that has those.  Now as a point of reference, my girlfriend got a pair of Bohn liners and does not like them.  She says they are too tight under her pants.  Later

I have Icon automag leather overpants.  I wear my uniform under them for work and they're fantastic.  Super easy to get on and off since they have a full length zipper for each leg.  Very well built and come with nice knee armor incorporated in them.  They're super expensive but in my opinion they're worth every penny.

here's what they look like

that's pretty cool of you to hook up your girl with some padding. i don't think that stuff is going to do what you expect in a slide/crash though. full leathers get the nod.

the other stuff needs one little tear and it's gone. after playing with some bluejean/kevlar/mesh/textiles at work on a grinding wheel, leathers was the decision. sure, they suck when it's hot/raining, but skin is expensive, and forever.

off the soap box...

if you like em, ok, at least you're wearing something besides jeans. watch craigslist/cycletrader/newspaper/wera for stuff. people sell moto-specific stuff on the cheap now. set your money aside, and keep adding to it until the best comes along. grab it. use it. keep your skin.

that's all. :)

damn those icon automag leather overpants would be perfect! but they are almost 300! i guess thats cheaper than the alternative of losing a bunch of skin.

would they be cheaper if they werent overpants and just leather pants? cause i have a little money set aside and i want a nice set of leather pants and a better jacket. where would you guys be looking, and at what brands?

(sorry about the hijack)

Well thanks for the input! I am thinking textile. Waladzu had some outerwear for sale but he got banned and Mary and others were looking.

As far as rain gear F the rain I am riding. The day I bought Bumble Bee from Superman I road her home in a monsoon! I ride when I want to ride not when weather dictates it to me. Lil' Red stay's a kinda virgin though. The Classic bike stays dry!

What I want is something comfortable and easy on and off. I have been to BikeBandits, KneeDraggers (don't ask), and Supermoto.

Double Post :nono: Um outer wear all though safe looks silly! ?

Like everything else I'm sure you get what you pay for.  I have some leather pants I got off www.leatherup.com but the leather is thinner than the icon leather jacket I have.

ohgood- Thanks for the advice.  I guess it's vain but I like the look of the kevlar jeans over the leather pants.  I'm sure that will change after a long pavement slide   :o Have you tried the mesh fabric on the grinding wheel?  I have a Joe Rocket summer mesh jacket that I'm dubious over how well it would hold up in a crash. Thanks

Sorry if this is thread hijacking but if anyone is in the Baltimore area a friend of mine sold his bike and has some nice riding gear he'd like to sell. He has 2 leather riding suits, a 2  piece and a one piece.  I'm too fat or I would snatch them up.  The 2 piece is a Teknic in a US size 46/Euro size 56 and the 1 piece is a Dianese in Euro size 54, no US size listed.  Let me know if anyone is interested and I will get details on them.  He wants a to sell them locally so the buyer can try them on first.

Yeah. I was looking at wladziu's knee armor. I saw some for sale on craigslist and ebay for about the same price. I think the difference is going to be abrasion over impact and both equally important. I am in the same boat. I want protection but conerned about comfort as well.

I wear Fieldsheer's mercury pants. They were $150 but I think you can get them for cheaper now on closeout etc.
They are great! They are waterproof which I have tested many times and very well armored and easy on easy off with a full length zip.
I would order a size up if you want to always use them as overpants (especially if you want to use the included liner).
I have a fieldsheer jacket with the same material that I took through a 40mph lowside and you can hardly tell (still wear it too) so I am pretty confident that the pants would hold up just fine at anything under 70mph.

I love my Richas: http://www.thebikerstore.co.uk/Richa-Kevlar-Jeans-Blue_AKYJQ.aspx. Fits perfectly and looks good. Can spend a day in office wearing those...

I have a pair of tourmaster waterproof overpants that i wear when riding and can't even tell i have an additional pair of pants on.  They are textile and have padding in the knees and in the hip area.   They have the full length zipper so you can get them on and off real easily even with my riding boots on.  On the hottest of days here in NJ when stopped in traffic they can get a little warm but not to bad and then once you start moving they are comfortable again.  I got them at newenough.com and think i paid somewhere between $100 and $150 for them.  They also came with a cold weather insulated liner if you want to ride through the snow as they stay fairly warm without the liner but it still comes with it.

bassmechanicsz are these the ones you have?

The ones on the right are the ones I really like and want but they are not over pants like the one on the left and they're a little more then I wanted to spend. Maybe Santa will bring them to me this year :thumb:

I do have a nice pair of Suzuki riding pants that now have knee armor and hip armor and are water proof. Got them off of ebay for $36 yay me. Problem is anything over 90 degrees and you melt. It has been hitting 102 here and you have no idea how tempting it is to not ride with the proper gear. As-a-matter-of-fact I saw a dude riding a Busa with just shorts on. No shoes, shirt, or glasses! I don't have any idea how he stopped like that on the pavement or shifted for that manner. I tried to catch up at a light to take a picture but he was one of those floor it at the lights and go straight. Probably the only person in the world I wished would get pulled over.

So, what do you guys use for uber hot weather? I really don't think leather is an option down here not until Dec!
