Dan, 28, living in Torrington, CT (Grew up in Bridgewater, CT).

Just started riding last September on a 1977 Honda CB550K.

Figured it was time to move to something a little newer, but I was still on a budget so I found a GS500E on craiglslist the day it was posted, had a deposit on it that night. Picked it up the next day, day after it was registered. Then its been a few days until I could ride it because of it having a little running problem, but that is nearly straightened out now.

So last Sunday around this time I saw the ad, and just a little while ago I got back from a quick little 15 mile ride around town.

I'm new here and just picked up a gs500e for my girlfriend.
It needed a little work so I joined up so I could learn a few things and hopefully contribute as well!

I found a 1991 for 600 bucks and its her first bike. (I have a gsxr600)
Its about in running condition. I had the carbs synced by a mechanic, and will be replacing the fork seals and most likely springs myself in the very near future. Then it just needs a turn signal and a new chain and it should be road ready!

I'm Kyle, in case my username didn't tell you that :P

I live in northeast Ohio, outside of Warren. However I'll be spending a lot of time in the Akron/Canton/North Canton area in a few weeks because I am moving down there for school.

The 2004 GS500F is my first street bike, but I've been riding motorcycles ever since I was 4 1/2. Back then I started out on a Yamaha PW 50 my dad got me. Moved on to a 1986 XR 80, nothing special, but I learned to ride clutch on that bike. Still have a KX 125 that I get on every once in a while, but out where I live quads are more fun, especially the Raptor 660 :)

Anyhow I'm a huge car guy, but decided to open another can of worms and get into bikes as well. I look forward to learning about these bikes and possibly meeting up with you other NE Ohioans on one of the 4 nice days we have out of the year!

Glad to be here,

-Kyle

Hi everyone just thought I would give you a little info about my self, I live in Anderson SC and I just bought a 2007 GS500 at a steal $1500.00 and it had only 700 miles on it I bought the bike for my wife because I wanted a lite bike for her she currently has a 1991 Suzuki VX800 great bike but a little heavy for a 5ft 2 inch lady to try and pick up if she dropped it this is our third Suzuki I ride a 2005 Bandit 1200s.
I have already made some mods to the little GS carb jetting K&N filter and a Yoshi slip on and let me just say this now the bike feels like a bike "big change between it and the VX and Bandit".

Hi everyone.  I'm Adam from Philadelphia.  25 years old.  Just picked up my first bike, a 1994 GS500E.  Its got <8000 miles on it, and I'm loving it.  Its already got a fenderectomy, and integrated turn signals.  I'm planning on a few mods (jet carbs, slip on exhaust, paint, steel brake lines).  This site has been helpful already.  Thanks for all the great info.

recently acquired a wrecked 05 ( twisted plastics, forks and trashed tank, rest is mint!!!!) and looking forward to converting it to a trackday bike. Figured its light, flickable, and gosh darnit the best part was i got it really cheap!

Looking forward to seeing if anyone can throw me some good mod ideas for it, anyone?anyone?

Also, my current need for this bike are :  Clean tank, front forks for the stock triples (reasonable priced please) in case my 02 gsxr600 front end doesnt work out, upper plastic and a fairing bracket.

Hey All,  Oldish guy here from sunny southern Alberta.  Still not so old to ride a cruiser yet though.
Got laid off in the great recession of '08 so now have time to work on my self(un)employment.
Loved my GS but switched to the SV a while ago.  Can't go wrong with any Suzuki (or Honda, or Yamaha, or Kawasaki, or...)
I think I've owned everything but a Harley or a Motto Guzzi.
I'm sorry America and Europe, these asians are fantastic!
Come up and ride through the Canadian Rockies folks.  They are fantastic!

Miro

Hi

Miro here from Denmark (Copenhagen) 35 Yo

seccon year on my GS500E fist discovert this bord now  :cookoo:

like I fist discovert what a good exhaust can do to a GS, guess I did listen to much to the people who toald me it wouldnt give many HP and I schould buy a new bike insted, Bahhh !
(HP is not all)

in my oppinion I almost got a new bike for the price of "2 hours work"  :D (Im a mettal worker, a friend and MB mekanic ask me to fix his exhaustion, cut off 100 mm)
we agreed on the price , I got a used Vance & Hines carbon slip on from a damage bike (use 2 hours more to fit it on mine ... and  :woohoo:

only reason why I did agree on the deal and did fit it on was the look of it (the carbon do match the black and grey/silver perfect 1999 model)
and of course the sound I expectet to get out of it, got boath + more, dunno the english word for it now I think about it ? (sorry English is only my "seccon" langues)

moment maybe ? well I dont think I got more then a HP or 3 but it got a lot more "power" I dont have to changes gear as often now, insted of going down to seccon in a slow corner I can do with tird or maybe even fourth  :thumb: as I live in copenhagen I do drive a lot in the city and I must admit I was begining to get a "bit" tired of all the gear changes, to test it I trid to star from 0 in seccon and no problem, before I had to work the cludgs A LOT to do that, or it would just "jump stop"

in other words I guess you could say its much more "fresh" guess the standart exhaust is`t wort much.

so get to it guys/galz, dont listen to the "evil" people who claims the GS is`t wort much and you schould buy a new bike if ou want more power (same people who think HP is all)
I did ask one of them the other day if he would go out and buy a R1 insted of fitting a exhaust on his R6 !

only thing I regret now is that I did drive 5k last year with the standart exhaust, if you ask me its a must for all GS owners, look and sounds more like a bike (the 2 cilender do sounds nice) and you get a lot more funn out of your GS, not HP ... funn !

I mean you wouldnt buy a GS anyway if HP and top speed was evrything, this small changes have made it much more funn on the bigger roads (80+ KM) with lots of curves (what Im driving for) and much more relax in the city traffick (if Im in a slow mowing line I can almost just keep it in tird now insted of going from fist to tird all the time)

best thing I did to my GS this year and for small "money"

Take my advice ...... I dont use it anyway !

Might as well say hello since Ive been lurking here for a few months :)

I'm Christina from Eastern Canada (Newfoundland to be exact). I just started to ride this year back in May, and just bought a 2005 Suzuki GS500F which was babied by its original owner and is in great shape. Lovely little bike to get comfortable on and I can have it for a little while before getting tired of it. (Started on a Cbr 125)

Glad I stumbled across these forums :)

Karin, 41 yrs old (ugh!), from Vancouver area, Canada, and a German import who is crazy about Hawai'i.  What little free time I have I like to tool around on my '08 GS500.  If I'm lucky, hubby will have time to come along on his '04 R6.  Wasn't sure if I was going to keep the GS, but found I don't get along with the heat the R6 puts out (which was my upgrade choice - particularly the '04 Limited Edition R6).  Have a long wish list of mods for my GS instead...:thumb:  Not sure what the Harley parts guy thinks of me though - putting Harley and Buell parts on a Suzuki  :cookoo:

Mauricio

Hi, my name is Mauricio and I have a fondness for Suzuki GS twins.

I hear this is the place for folk suffering from the same disease...  :icon_mrgreen:

Let's see...

I once owned a 2001 E model, and currently own an '86 GS450L (decruisified) as well as a 2007 GS500F. The fo-fiddy holds a very special place in my heart, the 500 is my utility/winter/lightweight tourer. I also own a fairly modded SV650, one day I hope to actually ride it.

And... that is all.

Got a 1993 GS bought for 150.00$$$  :icon_mrgreen:.
I had to change the tank  (not easy to find...) and at the same time buy new mirors and other small parts for 380.00$, to have
official paper for 70.00$, a mechanical inspection for 70.00$ and RIDE.
A nice bike for a big total of only 670.00$... Cool!!!!!!  :thumb:
