Best Turn Signals for an F model????

Yep that is a real concern.

You have to make sure you put some decent sized washers on the under side to spread the load. I fitted big washer but had to grind a few to get them to fit.
I do fear if someone bumps the mirrors hard enough or "touch wood" the bike drops, the fairing will most likely crack.

As for trying to fit them to the stock location, I tried that  first and sacrificed two mirrors with no success. The angle of the gixxer mirrors arms made them all but useless.

As for where I located the mirrors, I really didn't measure them. I got someone to position them in a place whilst I sat on the bike to make sure I had good rear vision. We then marked the masking tape with a pencil, and worked out where to drill from there.

Now that I have ridden over 7,000kms with these mirrors do I think they are worth it?

They look better, they give better turn signal visibility and better aerodynamics as it lets you remove your other turn signals, but functionally they are not as good as the stockers. They vibrate a little more than the stockers, and you have to move your arm a little to get more of a view behind you.

To be honest now that I've got myself a Gixxer 1000, I actually wonder why I bothered with the modification.

I also used the gsxr signals for the front and rear. Bought them off another gstwins member, with stalks already short. Great fit.

Anybody else do the Mirrors beside Galahas? I have the LED turn signals but was thinking of doing the integrated mirrors then put some flushmount turn signals on the front!

Would cover up the holes and have visible signals on the mirrors. I think we are going to make some nice stiff base plates to fit underneath and provide some extra support.

Will do a detailed write-up I promise!

Sucess they are mounted up YAY! Made two plate brackets in the back that support really well. Next step is to wire in the blinkers.

Here are my three questions though.

1) For those of you that did it. Did the two nuts hit the windshield by like not even a cm?

2) Will the SV mirror blockouts work on the GS500F? All the extra support I can get will help!

3) Can I splice these into the turn signals that I have already installed. I wanted to replace the current ones with flushmounts so I can have both.

I believe you can splice them in but the extra power draw could change the speed the indicators blink/flash, your best option to reduce this is to use some LED flushmounts because the amount of power they use is very small... (of course when it comes to me talking about anything electrical you should run and hide)

This is what I already have on the rear

I also at current moment have LEDs all around. So was thinking of doing the flush mount on the front sides mainly to fill up the holes and be as safe as possible!

I don't think you will have any problems just splicing the mirror signals in with the flushmounts.  LEDs don't draw too much.  All together you won't be drawing as much as standard incandescent bulbs.

Pics please!!!

I didn't have any problem with it hitting my screen, but I have an aftermarket zero gravity screen so the clearances might be different with the stocker

Toogoofy317

okay here is a pic about one of the nuts in question!

Here is where I'm at so far!

Here is what is behind the mirrors well sort of I had to file them down to exact sizing. Whew! was a lot of hand work LOL

I did not had those problem and my mirror don't have this angle  :dunno_white:

What I did is: I put some painting paper where I was about to drill. I still had the stock mirror on. I put the GSXR mirror parrallel to the base of the stocke mirror (it would even touch the stock base mirror). Then I pressed hard so it let a print on the painting paper so I knew where I had to drill. That way you have the same angle and the same hole on both side  :thumb:

can you share any pics of your ride with those mirrors mounted?

Unfortunately I don't have the fairing at the moment because I'm doing a new paint job.

However I think it looks more like this:

galahs

I probably should measure more exactly the location of where I mounted my mirrors because mine seem to be on the perfect angle.

Hows your rear vision in those mirrors Toogoofy?

Toogoofy317

#115
I'd say my rear vision is about 90% of stock and I'm thinking if I got some clip-ons I could get it to about 95%. I also only get vibrations (slight) at around 7500 RPM. I don't have to really tuck my arm in either. I experimented with that measurement earlier gsf500rr earlier and with that placement (friend holding mirror at that spot) I was not satisfied with the visibility. That and I would not have been able to place a proper supporting plate underneath.

I did do the masking tape for measuring also ( it also helps keep from cracking the fairing while drilling I've been told). I used a flexible measuring tape to make sure they are exact. TBH with the nuts the way they are it seems like they are actually assisting with keeping the vibrations down!

Would love one of those hero helmet cams so I could show you guys what the perception of the mirrors are for the rider. but, I'm way to poor for that stuff!

Either Monday or Tuesday I will be starting the electrical part. Have a ton of work the next two days that and well the rain ain't helping!

Galah can you do a close up of the mounting bracket so I can get an idea of how far back mine is from yours? From looking at it it seems like the nut would have been even more obtrusive with your set up than mine  :dunno_white:

Also GSF500R how are the vibs and visual on yours?

Without pulling off my shroud again here are the two photos I have of the area.

The bolts nuts rest up almost on the frame
Even though not present in this picture. I made a backing plate from a piece of aluminium like you did which I put under the washers.

so to reduce vibration I wedged some rubber in between the frame and the mirrors nuts.

Toogoofy317

Yay! I finally got the wiring done. I've been quite sick as of late and it just wasn't on the top of the priority list. As of now I haven't done the flush mounts but I covered up the side holes.  What is really nice is if you sodder the wires from the GS they will fit in the connectors of the GSXR mirrors so I didn't have to cut them. Doubt that it matters but I don't like messing things up when I don't have too.

The turn indicators are so much brighter than my small LEDs I think these are a much safer bet and are DOT approved which no LED light is. Usually, not a big deal but get one crankly FHP and they can make a bad day for you. I.E a not properly mounted tag will cost $962 for the first offense. Don't know about you but I ain't got that kinda money laying around.

Good Mod IMHO!
