I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the tail luggage rack made by Rev's Performance of Atlanta, GA:
http://www.revsperformance.com/renntec/sports_racks.htm#Suzuki

It is can be mounted to a GS500 without any modifications to the bike.  The website also lists an expandable tail pack that's big enough to hold a full-face helmet.  I could use some luggage space to carry groceries, and I thought this combo might fit the bill.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

P.S. This is my first posting to GSTwins.  It's nice to have a community of enthusiasts out there.

Hello and welcome!

I almost purchased that exact rack from them. They were really nice on the phone.
I ended up going with a cheaper option but the rack would have been better.

Welcome to the site :thumb:

This looks like it should mount up to the 89-00 models with no problem, but I've never seen one in person.  The only thing I don't like about it is how they have the "grab rail" extend above the rack.  If it weren't for this, you could place a wider case or bag up on the rack.  Had they made the top of the grab rail flush with the rack, it would be great as far as I can tell.

As for the tail pack they offer, I'm not sure I'd trust it with a whole lot of groceries.  It looks good for light stuff, but seems like it might be a little flimsy for something that might extend up to the expandable part.  Then again, I haven't seen one of these in person either...

Givi makes a top rack that can be had for about the same price too, and their website isn't nearly as painful to the eyes...

Judging by the color coding on that site, it looks like someone is a GA bulldogs fan. Is there a pic of it somewhere else? I tried looking but quickly exited due to the harshness on my eyes.

Here's a photo of the Rev's Performance tail rack.  I agree that the grab bar detracts from the rack's ability to hold larger pieces of luggage.

Where is the location of this less painful site?

I use a Ventura Rack http://www.ventura-bike.com/. And as can be seen this pic...

... it sits high enough to allow a bag to sit on the rack and over the grab rail.

The beauty of this rack is, I can take off the high bar and swap it for a lower "sport" version. I can add two bags together for double the storage. And it's a way to secure longer items which a top box cannot handle.

Do you remember what model you bought?

Ventura racks are a two step system...

Step #1: The "L" bracket. This is what attaches to your bike.

Step #2: The Rack - and it is either a Pack Rack, Sports Rack or Grab Handle. I got the Pack Rack and opted for the 51 liter bag - they have various bag sizes.

The bag just slips over the rack. It has to small belts with clips at the bottom so you Could belt it around the lower part of the rack. But gravity can keep it in place. The back of the bag has a zip all the way around. So you can put one bag on the rack and then another bag back-to-back and zip them together.

They (Ventura) make the L brackets specifically. Easier to buy it as a complete package - L bracket with rack and bag. They ain't the cheapest thing out there. But for MY purposes, the most versatile.

I just picked up a Ventura Bike Pack System on fleabay. I really looking forward to getting it mounted. I should be able to mount my Givi top case on the rack with the lower grab handle. I'll see how it looks & feels when I get it mounted.

it's been 5 minutes after I left their website and I still see stripes...

that's unbelievable how much more money they could have been making if their website had pleasant colors.

I've got that luggage rack on my bike, came with it when I bought it.

Its very strong, the grab rail can get in the way sometimes if your trying to mount boxes, but I've only every used soft luggage with it.
