Not quite what I was looking for but thanks for your 2 cents. This is a one off that I made myself so before I destroy it I want some input?

Unlike airbrush that is a master this is my first try and I really don't want to do it again. Well maybe. But knowing what I know now...I would take a different approach.

Why not keep the one on your bike now, take it off and buy a smaller after market one? Then if you get sick of it you can always revert.

Ok well at the risk of thread jacking which I abhor. Your suggestion is moot. I have had aftermarket 1/4 fairings. Specifically the Targa one which I did not like, hence my venture into making one of my own. I was rather looking for input on left or right (picture provided earlier).

Well let me rephrase then, I don't think it looks bad, but I don't think it looks good either (since its not my style, neither actually appeals to me), if you feel you will be happier with the second one I say go for it. If I HAD to choose between the two, I would probably choose the first one but not for any reason other then there is a bit more windshield....

Just ordered a 17 tooth sprocket, should be in tomorrow. If I like it I'll keep it, if I don't I'll return it haha

After a wreck a few weeks ago on my '96, which rendered my speedometer & corresponding cable useless, I picked up a whole gauge cluster from an '07 on ebay for $100. Since my tach still works fine & the '07's tach is electric, I did some slight modifying to use my original tach in the new gauge housing & upgraded to the '07 speedo. I remembered to take a few pictures, but everything was flowing so smoothly today that I forgot to make enough pictures to be "how-to" worthy. I also forgot to take assembled 'before' pictures. Still, if I can figure it out, most anyone can.

Here's the cracked housing from the wreck:

And the gauge trim, all bent up, old, & dirty (& missing the blue screen for the high beams):

The indicator lights (oil, neutral, etc) were smaller on the new housing, so I carefully drilled the holes for the lights larger with a 1/2" bit. 'Carefully' being the key word..didn't want to crack the new housing. I would have simply taken the new lights with the new cluster, but the wiring harness didn't fit. This was an easier solution than trying to figure out the wiring, & then teaching myself to solder :icon_razz: Here's a picture to try & show the difference in size:

The next problem was expected. The tachs from '04 & up (& I think some from '01-'03) are electric. My bike has a mechanical tach. Some day soon I'd like to convert mine to electric so I can use the newer, nicer tach from the '07 cluster, but that's for another day. Anyway, I just used a some wire cutters to cut the plastic about 1" up on both sides of the existing hole, & then snapped it off. As a reference for anyone who might try to do this, I just cut to the crease:

And since I got carried away, the next picture is of the end result:

And with the lights:

The old speedometer & tach had a 'needle bobbing' problem I always chocked up to a kinked cable. Well after replacing & greasing the new tach cable, it still has a bobbing problem. The new speedo with no added grease to the cable? Smooth as butter. Yet another reason I want to install that tach. That & the fact that the old tach has a flat black trim, while the new one has chrome. If I never upgrade to the '07 tach, I'll at least paint the speedo's trim. I like the black better anyway.

I also adjusted my chain today. Friday, I'll change the oil & oil filter & clean the K&N air filter. It's also about time to change the inline fuel filter. It was new when I got the bike 6k miles ago, but is all dirtied up now & needs changing. That's a hair above my skill set though, so I'll do that when I have a friend around to shadow me.

Changed my chain today, sprockets were good but I don't think chains should bend like this... Also I was able to take the master link off with my bare fingers.

GI_JO_NATHAN

That's alright, last weekend I messed with my chain and realized the clip for the master link was gone. So I replaced it with a spare and rode to work monday. Took a look monday night and the clip was gone again, and one of the tips of the master link that the clip hooks to was broken off as well. Holy hell glad I made home.
