Hello from Cincinnati, Ohio.  In my 40s and bought a new GS500F this year.  It is sweet.  Got it for the gas mileage for my long work commute.  I love riding!  Found this message board to be very helpful.  Thank you for hosting this site.

I figured I would say "hi".  I've lurked on the board for something like two years.  I purchased my bike 2.5 years ago.  She's a '99 with 28K miles on it (23k when I bought it).  It was my first bike purchase, and as a result, I had *no* idea what I was doing.  The thing leaked oil all over the place and ran like crap (had obviously been dropped a bunch), but I didn't know any better and bought it anyways.

Because of ya'll, I've rebuilt and rejetted my carbs, bought a new exhaust, replaced every seal and gasket on both sides of the crankcase to fix the leaks, stiffened the suspension, and in general, have learned a ton.  I've never worked on bikes or cars before, and it's been a blast.

Next up is checking my valve clearance, and possibly an adjustment.

I'm 35 years old, from the Seattle area, and work in the software industry.

hello! ive been stocking the board for about a month and finally got registered after the update.  its all because of gstwins that i now have my 01 gs500 with 18500 mi. ive named her suki *orginal i know i know* ive been in the automotive industry for the past decade wrenching and writing and i finally felt i could handle a bike without killin myself! shes in good shape besides some minor roadrash from the po and a few leaks. oh and a slight tear on the seat. a good friend of mine also has a 97 gs500 so if ur around fullerton or diamond bar hit me up for a ride or to do some wrenching.

Hello all, my name is Mark and I live in San Francisco, CA.  I recently bought my first bike, 2001 GS500 with a 06 motor.  I picked it up cheap because the previous owner couldn't get it to work, lucky me I get to fix a bike and learn how it works before I can actually ride it!

I'm a motorcycle noob, so I'll be asking lots of questions, especially engine and electrical ones.
