Changed spark plugs in Phenix. I decided to splurge and try Brisk BR12ZC plugs. WOW! What an improvement. Most noticeable is the even, consistent firing. Warm up took almost no time before killing the choke. Maybe better power, but what impressed me the most was a smoother running engine due to more consistent firing of the cylinders.  :woohoo:

They're like $14 each as opposed to $3 for our ordinary NKG's or $7 or so for iridiums.

Brisk has some really good info on spark plugs, heat ranges and so forth. http://www.briskracing.com/

Interesting that the BR12ZC's with copper have 3 times the electrical conductivity of iridium, and 6 times the conductivity of nickel plugs. better electrical conductivity would mean a more powerful spark.

OK- go ahead and rag on me for AGAIN spending excess money on premium parts for an old outdated model bike (like has been done for $125 each for LSL levers and other parts). There. Preempted the ragging!  :flipoff:

I'm curious how one would work in Thumper - my 1973 TS-185 2-stroke.

oooooooooooo i think i want some!

I discovered them by looking up SUZUKI GS500 on Amazon

Sweet! althought i think its cheaper off the website you listed the first time, i thought they were 10.99 there.

I'll definately have to look into these after i get everything else lined up!

*edit*
maybe those were for cars not bikes

Just installed pirelli demon sport tires. So much better than my aging dry rotted patched tires I had! Hardest part was figuring out I needed to inflate them to 50 - 60 psi to seat them.  :dunno_black:

I bout jets for my carbs (and of course the store gave me the wrong ones)
and i "installed" my new pipe!

anyone else notice that the yosh pipes are retardedly close to the bolt on the swing-arm? i put some gorillas tape on it incase the pipe rubbed against it, it wouldn't cause any damage

You might re-examine how you mounted it. Any exhaust would (should/must) be out enough so it will never hit the axle bolt or the swing arm.

Kind of looks like it needs to be rotated out - by bending the bracket to the frame and loosen where it clamps onto your pipe and let it swing/rotate out a little.

On another note - Phenix sat for a few hours again. Started right up with no choke or throttle and went right to proper idle speed. These Brisk racing plugs are awesome! Phenix never would start up like that. I am so anxious to get more of these plugs (ordered them today). I'm not down shifting as much now since he runs fine even a little below 2500 rpm. Amazing.

Racing plug, or Phenix's first 80 degree day in Seattle? Was your bike sitting in the sun? Ambient temperature is going to make more difference than a little more spark.

Well, at the office he is shaded. Has been in the sun before. I've ridden him on hot days and long enough for him to get to max temperature.
In the bike cave last night when I first put them in I noticed a difference after changing plugs.
It was cool this morning. He was in the cave all night and still cold. Started better than he ever did.

I have a ride Saturday. I will be curious to see what my mileage is.

Try them yourself when more come in next week.

I understand  you can be skeptical, but having ridden him a lot and riding 4 bikes, I do find there is much better performance than I have ever seen in any of the bikes.

Just for giggles, I started (tried) to start all 4 bikes. Only Phenix started right up and went right to a very smooth and stable idle. That is something he never would do. Even when hot, the idle was never as stable as it is now when cold. Yep - I'm impressed.

I'll let you try a pair next week. I understand you can be skeptical.

Skeptics: I had to see what would happen when it was cold. Bike sat in the cave 12 hours since yesterday. 55* this morning in the Bike Cave. Started Phenix without choke. Never used choke this morning. Will post a video of the cold starting in the thread on the Brisk plugs.

My bike has been out of service since June 3rd...had to wait for a fork that was on back order...damn rare bike!!

So today was beer and repairs...

Now I have to make up for lost time...I only have three months left to ride and a pile of miles to put on!!

Later.

I replaced a cracked part of the tail fairing. Looks just like new again.  :woohoo: Then I went for a nice 50 mile ride.

Gave it a good clean, removed the fuel tank and treated all the hard to get to areas with a lanolin based spray to inhibit corrosion. Then fitted a Ventura sports rack and went for a ride in the sunshine :)) done over two days:) Feels good!

Gave Phenix a new tank bag then took him on a 160 mile rode on the Olympic Peninsula with about 15 other riders. Also really enjoyed the performance with the new Brisk spark plugs. Loved the twisties!

Phenix also got 2 ferry rides today. FUN!

(Gloves were off because had to get money out for the ferry. We were in line to pay.)

Crosswind engine stumble back. Carb vent pipe moved, re-attached better this time.

Also, one of my stop lamps quit working. Tail light worked fine, but the stop did not work.  Re seated, and all is well.
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

Bought her a shiny new sprocket and chain set, along with rear caliper and rear brake disk. All prescribed by my local mechanic.

Hopefully once on I'll have a quiet pleasant, quick to stop well maintained machine again. In which case I'd better raise the mileage on the insurance as I'm doing nearly 1000 mile a month just now!

Installed the 7075 aluminum dogbones I made to bring the rear height back down a little with the sv shock. Checked the fuel delivery system out try to find the cause of a couple of fuel starvation stoppages I have had (didn't find anything).

And I did a little sketching to try to decide what I want to do with the headlight/fairing/dash.
