Got new tabs and registration certificate. Took measurements to determine where I could possibly attach a rifle scabbard.

You know you're a redneck when your motorcycle has a gun rack.  :bs:  :cookoo:

gave the bikes a nice polish and waxed them.  heaps easier to clean bugs off when the bikes are waxed.

Got it running on the stock jets (1 washer, 3 turns on the mixture screw). The right side is running lean, and the left side is running even more lean. I was too lazy to sync the carbs because they're coming out again as soon as the new jets get here. Unfortunately I couldn't take it for a ride, because it just dies when given any throttle. Hopefully a little more fuel and a good sync will do the trick.

Installed new .85 Sonic Springs springs today. Overall pleased with the feel. Less sag and rides a little smoother than stock. Also I would say about a 25-30% less front end dive from stock 06 springs. I was lucky enough to score a R6 shock with less 1k on it for $25 plus shipping (from another forum) and a rear BT45 Battlax tire for $95 from Dennis Kirk. Just waiting on the bottom bolt sleeve from the dealer so I can install the shock.
Why are you looking here?

Replaced float needles, adjusted float height, replaced sprockets and chain. The test ride was the first ride in weeks!

It wasn't all as simple as that.

And here's a pro-tip for you: use a 6-point socket instead of a 12-point on those nuts holding the rear sprocket on the hub.

12-point sockets are really only good for 12-point heads and hammering a size down onto a stripped hex bolt.

Not everyone has a cage, and I'd prefer to not have anything strapped to my back when possible. I need to get my girlfriend's rifle fixed up before rabbit season.

Out with the old 90's blinkers and in with the new 00's blinkers

Replaced the generator cover gasket which had been leaking all over the place.  The gasket was dried out and caked on the cover after ten years and 16k miles...after five hours and a lot of scraping and spraying I finally got all of the gasket material off.  No more leaks!  :D  Also gave my bike its first oil change...the old stuff was black, thick, and sludgy!  Disgusting!  Don't know if the PO ever changed the oil.

Haven't posted about it, but also recently rejetted the carbs, added a lunchbox filter and a K&N vent filter for the breather, performed a valve adjustment (they were all tight), replaced a missing bolt and washer on the chain guard, replaced some missing chrome caps on the handlebar bolts.  Also replaced the rear brake pads.  Whoever came up with the idea of using the old pads as levers to push the old pistons back into the calipers was a genius!  Had to tear everything back down at one point to replace the leaky carb bowl gaskets after being sent the wrong part by the dealer...turns out Suzuki's parts catalog has the wrong part number for the '01-'02 bikes...I received an '89-'00 float bowl gasket...not the '04+ one my bike requires.

Yesterday: replace a crapped out cheapo imitation tacho cable with a genuine Suzuki part and took it for a 10-mile ride.  Nice.  Today went for a 50-mile ride.  Even better!

Adjusted the chain and greased it.  Saw surface rust  :nono:
Bikeless and Broke at the moment...

ThatOtherGuy

yep also did a clean and lube on the GS500 chain, then an adjustment.  looks good and running well again.

turbokenta

Ran seafoam through the carbs today, and replaced the rear shock with one from a Katana 600...

Then after reassembly, it seems it's only running on one cylinder  :icon_sad: So tomorrow, another disassembly! Must have accidentally disconnected something, as it seemed to run fine after the seafoaming. So tomorrow, checking spark-plugs, leads, coils, then the carbs...  :icon_confused:

Put Junior back together. Took him for a ride. He was very happy.

ThatOtherGuy

Ordered new mirrors, new indicator assemblies (front) and two new clutch handles for the Bandit.  Why I hear you ask?  Epic Fail thread contains the details.  Thankfully I have the good ole faithful GS500 to continue riding.

adidasguy

Re-torqued head bolts (they really settle in after one night and need re-torquing). Valve adjustment now that valves settled in. Gave Junior a bath then dressed him up for a ride.

Junior is very happy now.

Love the fairings addy! I looked at it and wiped some bugs off it
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

mister

May be an optical illusion, Addy, but your front tire looks like there is bugger all tread left in the middle.
